WP Edit
By , for WP 3.9.1

Gone is Ultimate TinyMCE w/ WordPress 3.9.1.

Tried a few other plugins and ended up w/ WP Edit Free. Was surpised by limit on features. Plan to move up to WP Edit Pro based on past experience with Josh Lobe.

Does the job, but will be going pro

WP Edit is basically a replacement for the built-in Tiny MCE editor. This free version has some potential but it's probably not worth going to all the effort to install on top of Tiny MCE.

Where I see a huge difference is in the PRO version of WP Edit. The extra functionality and time saving features it brings, is worth paying for. I personally think the price is a little steep at the current $35 but you only have to buy it once, so the cost becomes less the longer you use it.

If you're thinking about getting the pro version, you should install this version to get a feel for it.

In summary, WP Edit is not bad, it just doesn't offer much more than you already have. If you want all the bells and whistles, you going have to buy WP Edit Pro version.

The successor falls flat IMO

I loved the previous plugin, Ultimate, now being forced to use this one had left me with a sour taste.

A good deal of the basic functions of Ultimate are either gone or now premium. And you can now only edit the top row until you purchase pro.

I understand this is a business for the developer, but distributing a pared down version and charging for it does not entice me.

I host/work on/develop over 100 sites. $35 per site and @279 developer has me reconsidering the editor I had previously abandoned, unfortunately.

I loved ultimate, I love the potential for this, just stung a bit by the execution.

Some growing pains, but getting better.

WP Edit was unheard of until Ultimate TinyMCE suddenly died with WordPress 3.9. Users rushed to find an alternative, and WP Edit was the author's other project that he recommended. This plug-in suffered five updates in the first two days after the launch, and it's still got some issues. I rate it "good", but it's not nearly what Ultimate TinyMCE once was. I suspect it will be, given enough time towards development.

A downstep from Ultimate TinyMCE

it works but has a lot of limitations compared to the "old" version (Ultimate Tiny MCE).
This is only a crippled teaser for the pro version - I will move to TinyMCE advanced
