So, first you opt to backup your existing site, then go to your new site, install the same plug-in there and then import the old files via the backup you just did.

Firstly, you're lucky if it backs it up in the first place. It may take several attempts with random luck as to whether it does so without error.

But secondly and worst of all, is that when restoring, it can just wipe out your new site's wordpress install, meaning you have to re-install it from scratch. And it's fairly likely to happen.

Doesn't work

Simply would not work. Could not even get it to create a backup, let alone an install. Left 1.1GB of junk files in the uploads folder that required time to manually remove.

Doesn't work for anything that's worth doing.

I've used this plugin successfully to clone WP sites with nothing or almost nothing in them. Once the sites are even slightly populated with content and media, this plugin pretty much doesn't work.

Good for small blogs but need work
By , for WP 4.3.1

When my blog was not so big it worked like a charm but after 1.3gb data to be stored it had problems and now 2gb and 127mb database it runs out of time and gives a 404 error.

And it needs work on security for backed up files.

5 stars minus 2 for the above reasons.

An upgrade would be to be able to split up the backed up zip files.

Works like a charm!

I have found WP Clone is the quickest and easiest way to take a dev site live, duplicate a site, or simply create a backup. The only time I have had it fail is when trying to use it on a clients site where they are hosted on one of the lower end web hosting company's. It seems to fail b/c some hosts put a limit on the transfer time and bandwidth. If this happens just clone the database and then manually ftp the files and it works fine.

Yes, there are some issues from time to time (especially with Godaddy which I am sure has more to do with Godaddy's horrible hosting than with WP Clone), but all in all, I am relying heavily on WP Clone and use it on a regular basis with every website I develop.

I am happy to hear that the developers are working to improve it, but it is the best backup plugin I have found to date.

Thanks WP Clone!
