This has been the most reliable plugin I have ever used, as long as you don't change the name of the file, I have never had an issue and I have successfully moved hundreds of wordpress websites, a couple of times I had to edit the wp-config.php file, but even that was a quick fix, I have seen paid commercial back up systems fail miserably so for a donation here and there This has to be the best solution for saving time and headaches.
Not like other similar plugins that ask a lot of question. This one is very simple to use. It still has an "Advanced Settings" option if you want to manually configure the settings.
And the great is: IT WORKS! I used Duplicator plugin(by LifeInTheGrid), but don't know why now it won't work anymore. So have to find the alternative. Glad I found this.
A great program... easy to restore from back up or clone to another server. Thankful it is being updated to current WP versions!
When I attempted to upgrade WP on my live site, it turned white and I could not login, even from the hosting account. Luckily I have a recent test site. I loaded WP Clone on the test site and made a backup. Then deleted the prod site, and did a new install. Installed WP Clone and entered the URL for the backup. I was surprised how quick it worked. Important, when I tried to go into Settings it redirected to the test site. So I had to edit wp-config.php to hard code in url for both WP_HOME and WP_SITEURL. Now it works great.
After having significant hassles with manual migration and then with Duplicator and some other self-proclaimed silver bullet software I found WP Clone. WP Clone did exactly what you would guess it does: It clones your site from one location to another. It's easy to install, easy to use and does the job!
Save my life! Very helpful tool.
Wasted 1 hour of my time trying to get this to work. Avoid.
So, first you opt to backup your existing site, then go to your new site, install the same plug-in there and then import the old files via the backup you just did.
Firstly, you're lucky if it backs it up in the first place. It may take several attempts with random luck as to whether it does so without error.
But secondly and worst of all, is that when restoring, it can just wipe out your new site's wordpress install, meaning you have to re-install it from scratch. And it's fairly likely to happen.
Simply would not work. Could not even get it to create a backup, let alone an install. Left 1.1GB of junk files in the uploads folder that required time to manually remove.
I've used this plugin successfully to clone WP sites with nothing or almost nothing in them. Once the sites are even slightly populated with content and media, this plugin pretty much doesn't work.
