Move or copy a WordPress site to another server or to another domain name, move to/from local server hosting, and backup sites.
Thanks for this awesome backup plugin, it makes it a cinch to migrate a staging environment to production. I use Dreamhost so I didn't experience any issues!
I would love to have WP Clone work, but it did not work for my installation.
I am hosted at GoDaddy, using Weaver Xtreme free theme and All In One WP Security & Firewall (including re-naming the wp-admin sign-in page). The latter might have foiled the cloning.
I attempted to clone from existing domain to a domain with a fresh WordPress installation and no content. Got error: Error Message: Internal Server Error; Temporary files created in newsitename/wp-content/wpclone-temp will be deleted.
The WP Clone plugin leaves a folder wp-clone in wp-content/uploads, both in the origin domain and the destination domain. Unlike another reviewer, I had no trouble deleting both of these folders using FileZilla.
The bad news: WP Clone failed to clone my installation; WP Academy does not provide adequate documentation and troubleshooting instructions, just their demo video; and the link on their FAQ page leading to more instructions goes to an error page.
The good news: It took me only a short time to try it out; it did not damage my existing WP installation; it was easy for me to remove the wp-clone folders left over; and the video is very clear as far as it goes.
I would love to try this plugin again (and contribute to its development) if they can fix the "bad news" items above.
Hey. Love this plugin but I ran across an instance it didn't work. Here are the errors I got:
Warning: mysql_fetch_array() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in /***Hidden**Directories**/plugins/wp-clone-by-wp-academy/lib/functions.php on line 245
The plugin encountered an error while cloning the database, the following error message was returned:
Error Message : MySQL server has gone away
It might be an issue on my end though since it has to do with the mySQL server...
Tried wp-clone. It didn't copy any plugin so the copied site didn't work.
OK, move on, right? Wrong! It leaves a directory wp-clone on the server (under uploads) that cannot be deleted, even with root access.
Can you tell me how to get rid of that directory?
I was able to move my full website from one domain to another with a few clicks of a button, Worked flawlessly! Thank you so much for making an awesome plugin!
This plugin has saved me so much time. It simply works. And it is free.
Thanks to WP Clone, moving a website is a breeze.
Most of the time it works automatically: perfect, everything is moved within 10 minutes with only few clicks.
But even if there's server issues, it allows you to move you FTP files (wp-content) as it is, and just by moving the database, does all the work for you.
Perfect for WordPress DIVI users as well: it moves all the content seamlessly!
From old installation from new wordpress installation, work like a charm. No bug. 3 minutes for backup & resore...
Thank U !
I wrote on their forum to point out that using their latest release on a freshly update WordPress, I ended up with incomplete post and page content, just a few lines at the beginning of each and no more. Thankfully I was cloning, not backing up and restoring, otherwise I would have lost most of my content, so beware before relying on this plugin for backup!
I waited a week for a reply from developers but nothing yet, so it has to be a 1 star I'm afraid...
It will not backup my site. When it does finish then the file is empty!! So I cant restore it from my other website. Dammit!
