Improve your WordPress SEO: Write better content and have a fully optimized WordPress site using Yoast's WordPress SEO plugin.
Useless. Optimize your theme, that is enough!
I've tried this plugin starting over a year ago. I had some very significant problems with it throwing errors and not rewriting titles correctly per the settings I had specified in the plugin. I deactivated it and went on with life.
Fast forward over a year later, and now it's been renamed to include "WordPress" and the hype is even greater. I decided to take it for a spin again, hoping it had been improved. Big mistake. It actually deactivated the Google Analytics plugin (I know...hard to believe but true) and caused several other problems on the site.
My advice: stay away. Lots of the things that this plugin does is old news when it comes to SEO anyway. You could seriously cause more problems on your site than help if you don't know what you're doing.
Write good content that real people want to read, share, and save. Period. Leave the hype behind and enjoy life :)
And no explanations :( Support is not free.
I hated giving this 1 star because it's so highly rated by others, but the problem is it's WAY too complex with virtually no explanation of what each section does. Some have small descriptions, but in the main I scrolled through all the sections you can adjust, completely bemused by the never ending text boxes you can add some weird code to and the array of tick boxes that you can tick, without having even the first clue what they are all for.
There is a hefty file here https://yoast.com/articles/wordpress-seo/ that helps out but be prepared for some mighty reading!
After setting up, I have a lot of errors in Google Webmaster Tools.
Broken after last update!
It is a good plugin. Unfortunately it seems it was written by someone not speaking any inflectional language, nor any other language with diacritical characters. I also noticed og.image is completely broken, this disqualifies this plugin for any SEO things.
I speak several languages, one of my sites is in Polish, which is one of slavic languages, which is highly inflectional. This plugin doesn't support diacritical characters in the keyword - it gets lost, it says my article doesn't contain any appearance of the keyword, but then it says my keyword is in the first paragraph. Also it doesn't know that my article and/or its title and meta contain the keyword, but not it its basic form, but in its flexed form.
Google however is very good in understanding and recognizing inflection languages and its search finds different forms of the word.
Not sure how you could fix it with your plugin, but something as the 'core' of the word would help. Please check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inflection and the example with the cats. The plugin could know that all words starting with "gat" are the keywords if "gato" is defined as the main keyword.
I also don't understand why it doesn't contain Google Analytics code, while All-in-one SEO does. I know Yoast has a separate plugin for that, but why multiply?
My site imports image from wikipedia. My article imports image:
and displays it correctly. But what does this plugin do?
It sets og.image to:
Meta Tag <meta property="og:image" content="http://paleosmak.pl//upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/8b/Kidney_beans.jpg/512px-Kidney_beans.jpg" />
Completely broken, waste of time. They only want to make money, they are not interested in other users. Avoid.
Has today WordPress SEO by Yoast the 22.214.171.124 version, whatever they say it, with this WordPress Plugin version 3.8.1 does NOT work. Leave blank screen and the only way to continue working is going to the server and delete the plugiun.
Moreover and backward running it seemed very good.
This plugin caused that my site disappeard complete from Google index.
So use this careful and be aware what you're doing. Can't follow the five star ratings.
Have been running this with no difficulty, but update 126.96.36.199 took my site down altogether. :-/
