Just skip the 3.0 upgrade and you'll be all set. The older version works and it works good.
Quite a few bugs it causes in the main functionality of the website. It messes with some the the core editing functionalities of posts and pages. Needs to be looked at thoroughly for bugs in the next update.
Thanks to Yoast
I liked this plugin before, but now ...
Your homepage cannot be indexed by search engines. This is very bad for SEO and should be fixed.
I don't know if this message is just there to let us run over to Onpage.org and then PAY MONEY to just address the issue!
I tried every possible solution, nothing works!
I've contacted both Yoast & Onpage.org, both did not help because I have free account!
I have been using this plugin over 4 years and I tired of how many bugs it has that cause severe problems within the functionality of the plugin itself and other parts of WordPress.
Seems that Yoast had too much success doesn't care about quality any more.
I updated the plugin today despite having read all the bad reviews. I thought I had to figure out what all the fuss was about. At least, before I recommend the update to all my clients.
The user interface and user experience is very disappointing. You can't see the number of characters in the title tag and meta description fields and basically have to guess how many characters you've typed in.
Don't get me started on the "recalculate SEO scores" functionality! I pressed it and all of my meta descriptions were replaced by random excerpts from my content and my theme's short codes.
I have now rolled back the plugin.
I cannot recommend this update to any of my clients!!!
That there is absolutely no documentation, not even a guide, to help with using this plugin, it gets 1 star. Basically it's useless. Sure there are some fields that take just a bit of common sense to fill in, but really? This plugin alone is supposed to make more of a difference on a Website than almost all others - it gets your Website seen! Yet the dev decided on a money grab, forcing you to pay almost $300 for a video!
I'm using the Premium version, which is licensed, so I just wanted to warn anyone using the free version and considering upgrading - don't.
The Yoast Website is a mess, shockingly. Whoever they paid robbed them, because the layout is all over the place. My biggest concern is, there is NO documentation. Once you install any version of this plugin, you're basically on your own.
Just one example of the blind data entry forced on users - version 3 has tabs in the Snippet Editor / Keyword / Analysis section. Who knows what new benefits adding another tab creates, because there are no instructions!
The Snippet Editor lost the word count feature, replaced with a dynamic color change when you run out of space. Kind of stupid in my opinion and really adds no value to the Snippet Editor - you don't find out you ran out of space until all the text turns red.
Another part of the Snippet editor that is a mess - when clicking the edit button (a small pencil) for the title you lose what was there - it turns blank - so you start typing. If you mess up or decide to go back to what you had, it's gone.
Also, when you update to version 3+ you lose the suggestion drop down for your keywords! Yoast claims this functionality was removed due to Google shutting down the autocomplete API. Well, I went back to version 2+ and it works!
Anyways, use at your own risk, or at your Website's risk.
Besides the rest of the comments here, every time I input a keyword, and then click 'update', the keyword doesn't show up.
A little bit buggy but all sorted besides that. Not the greatest update of theirs.
If I don't get a reply it looks like I'll be joining the people who either roll back to an earlier version, or leave altogether.
Works well and customisable to my needs. Thank you Joost.
