I've been using Yoast for a long time, and it's just getting on my nerves now. It's generally had good features, but the amount of "upgrade to premium" advertising is getting over the top. The features that it offers are good, but I'd prefer something simple, without so much in-your-face "upgrade to premium" notices.
Every time you install or upgrade the plugin, you're bombarded with notices like this:
"Yoast SEO has been updated to version 3.2.3. Click here to find out what's new!"
Nothing should be new! I upgraded from 3.2.1 to 3.2.3. It's a point release, and it shouldn't be anything other than security and bug fixes. Yet, it's another chance to show a YouTube (!?) video now that tells you to upgrade to premium.
The plugin has great functionality, but I hate notifications after each update. Maybe I could tolerate it after major update. How many times would you have to click X to close it if all pluigns give such notice? What Yoast is thinking about? The worst thing is it reappears every time I refresh dashboard!
A very useful plugin that I've been using on different projects. Thanks for creating such a good SEO plugin.
Couldn't imagine WordPress without it.
It seems to me that this plugin was just the one I needed. It is a great tool for beginners like me, it draws your attention to all the details a website needs to get a higher ranking.
Very easy to install and very easy to use. Thanks a lot!!
Over the last few months the plugin has got so much more complicated to use. It's really not very user-friendly. I'm having to constantly explain to clients that the page title and description on the snippet editor are clickable and that you can edit them!! I don't understand why the usability has become SO poor. It was fine a year ago - why change it?!?
If Yoast doesn't sort it out I'm seriously considering using something else because the UX has become SO hideous!
More features are moved to the paid release. At the same time the plug-in feels more bloated, buggy and intruisive than before. I used to love this plug-in, but after the 3.2.3 update completely broke my site with a PHP Fatal error, I will not bother with debugging to get the plug-in installed and active again.
When I updated to WordPress 4.5 I had the following problems with Yoast version 3.2.3.
While Page / Post editing the following happens:
1. WordPress Visual Editor does not load. You must go to TEXT then switch to Visual before it will display.
2. When trying to insert a link on a page or post, the new WP LINK BOX is way down in the lower left corner of the page. You might think it not there.
3. No matter where it is the new WP link box SETTINGS popup does not display. So all links must be manually editing or added.
I disabled ALL my plugins then installed again one by one. It wasn't until I reinstalled Yoast that the problem appeared (it would be the last one alphabetically).
SO UNTIL FIXED I have uninstalled Yoast.
I love the Yoast SEO plugin in the beginng.
But it feels that every update get used to move free users to premium users. With the latest update to 3.2 there are more functions just get deleted and meanwhile its just anoying what Yoast and his team do anymore. :(
This is the fall of king to useless stuff.
