Wordfence Security is a free enterprise class security and performance plugin that makes your site up to 50 times faster and more secure.
Wordfence is an extremely useful plugin. Specifically, because I run a WP MU network and is nearly impossible to keep the overview on all sites.
The only drawback is that it does not support IPv6 yet, thus only 4 stars.
This is a great plugin, I like the idea of sending emails to me instead of me having to go to the website to check all the time!
> Easy to use, Set it and forget it
> Very protective and Does the job well
- A bit over protective, sending emails when ever you even login and that kind of thing
All up its a great plugin that makes me feel safe d:)
The free version is ok for very simple sites...
BUT if you run buddypress or sites with social networking elements that contain sensitive info I suggest upgrading... the premium features help secure your data
The only feature this plugin missing is to change admin login, logout url.
Other than this, this is one of the best plugin.
I just replaced two Giant plugins [iThemes Security Pro & W3 Total Cache].
Hope I made the right decision.
It does it all and it does it well. It successfully blocked 7 IPs that were hitting my server with login attempts immediately after enabling the firewall and login security features. The attention to details like WHOIS and easy permanent blocking features solidify it even more.
*** Things to consider if you use EasyEngine NGINX w/caching (rt-cache, aka Nginx-Helper) it is a selective caching & purging agent that is very useful for page caching on it's own, but it comes bundled and configured to let W3TC do Object & DB caching & CSS/JS Minification. WordFence's (awesome) Falcon Engine does not allow W3TC to be an active plugin in conjunction w/Falcon, so you'll have to find an alternative to W3TC to handle those three tasks, unless Falcon does them and I'm just not aware of it. *** 5 STARS IF the WF team can figure out a way around this or clarify this for us!!
OK - so this plugin is almost perfect, but I had some issues where an assistant set it up on several blogs with security settings that were so strict it caused admin lockouts that were resolved only by ftping and deleting the plugin from the folder and then logging in and re-installing.
Also - I think it would be smart tp have the firewall enabled on install with suggested settings already in place. It's abit confusing.
If it weren't for that I'd give it a 5 because it really does protect you from those scammer people trying to login and harm your sites.
A must have for any site!
Service issues seem to be resolved back to high stars.
We are pleased to use this plugin on our website.
We are looking forward for more enhanced version in future!
