I have severel times switched from one language to the other in admin panel recently.
A I have now some warnings about modified core .php files.
It is not serious!
My firs install of wordfence.
The only thing you can really do is a file scan on the free version, everything else requires the premium version. I thought plugins in the WordPress Repository couldn't even include premium features, they had to be in separate add-ons - this plugin seems to violate tons of free plugin guidelines.
I was using it more as a traffic monitor and sadly, since the update, it's not monitoring correctly. Now I get Bing and Googlebots flooding in the Humans feed, with WordFence not seemingly able to differentiate between human traffic and bots anymore.
Struggled with it for 3 days trying to see who are actually human thru all the bots and finally just gave up.
Sadly, deleted it today and off looking for another plugin.
I'm not sure who coded the live scan, but slap them. hard. It really needs to be off by default as it will munch through the RAM on the server at a truly alarming rate, to the point it can make the site unusable. That really needs working on.
Purchased PRO version. It used to scan fully. I did NOT change my website and after some WordPress updates and Wordfence updates, for some reason it just sits on scan and won't finish.
I reached out for support. They told me they thought it was my other plugins 'maybe' causing a 'conflict' or my own server. But would not answer me to tell me why they did not think it was a Wordfence plugin issue. I gave them Admin access to check my WordPress, and after they checked into my WordPress they said it was not a Wordfence issue, then when I asked how they came up with this logic, they said they cannot troubleshoot my site (I did not ask them to do this). Then they basically said I asked too many questions and wanted to know if I wanted a refund.
I see on the forum I am not the only person whose site sits on scan and does not finish scanning. I give it 2 stars because it's not a bad product (still needs work) if they can take responsibility that there is an issue others report that it does not fully scan and address it. They like to blame other plugins but don't help explain, well this must be the ideal set up for their Wordfence product to work (users must only use these plugins with our products). It's like this Wordfence plugin is so sensitive it can have easy conflict with other plugins or something and they blame the other plugins, they don't check their own product could maybe be the issue. How can I not have other plugins to work with my site?? This makes no sense. Otherwise it's not a bad product overall.
I've been curious about this plugin for a while and decided to give it a try. This plugin is overkill unless you are on an enterprise class server and need Fort Knox type security for a huge e-commerce site or something with super sensitive information.
It completely broke my site on install and I had to delete everything from the database using myPHPadmin to get it working again.
It is not for the casual user with a normal, everyday wordpress site. If you use good username/password discipline and the Limit Login Attempts plugin, you're probably secure enough in most situations.
I installed it and had a bunch of trouble, woe, and aggravation.
I uninstalled and things got better.
The improvement since uninstalling could be a coincidence....
I've been using this plugin for years, and sadly it's just not working well anymore. Scheduled scans almost never complete, and I've received little help in support to figure out why.
If you are for the free, go for it. Just great, the filechange comparison is amazing and helped me a lot several times.
Bought the premium version, support = zero, got more help many times in free forums.
1. Falcon crashed my site, support answered (vaguely) 7 days later.
2. Got aserver complain, too much CPU use, 13 days later no answer at all.
