Wordfence Security is a free enterprise class security and performance plugin that makes your site up to 50 times faster and more secure.
Great plugin I use on virtually every site I build. I really appreciate getting notices when I need to update and when someone logs in (a client working on their own site! Yay!) or a lock out which tells me I'm having bot problems. As a bonus, they have a great security newsletter that lets me know what is going on in the security world.
Wordfence is a real asset to the WordPress community. Their team is very good at education and threat-assessment via their mailing list. We've used their free version on seven sites, and it has been so helpful we're going to get premium licenses to support the service. Awesome work, devs!
It does exactly what it should, helps keep my site secure and helps keep me informed of new vulnerabilities.
My sites are protected FREE for Wordfence, Great work!
Scanning is fairly decent, even in the free version.
<s>If a plugin does not remove the db-tables it created upon uninstallation I am considering it a p.o.s.</s>
Update: I was wrong. It´s indeed an option to delete tables upon deactivation.
WordFence provides great documentation & support. This plugin has provided me with peace of mind. I manage several WordPress sites and use this plugin on all of them. Before I installed this plugin, one of my sites was being hammered with brute-force attacks. This pluqin allowed me to quell the problem. I highly recommend!
The educating lesson from using Wordfence is an eyeopener. I was not aware of how often my site gets a hit from hackers - now I know - and that forces one to think about everything else "on line" - in addition to the work with WordPress. Banking comes to mind. So, thanks to Wordfence, I am now rethinking everything - no more simple passwords.
We've been so impressed with WordFence, we now install it on all our customers' sites. It locks down the WordPress login against hackers, scans your site for infected files and lets you know when something needs updating. There are quite a lot of settings, even in the free version, but the pre-defined security levels make it easy to get started. We now use our own settings, as detailed on our blog, so we know our site is secure but our users can still get access.
Don't run a wordpress blog without it!
