If you saw what WordFence saw, you would be glad to know WordFence saw it first.
If your website isn't being actively defended by several tools, you are at high risk of the site being damaged or as bad, infected by malware. I find WordFence an easy and effective tool when it comes to defending a WordPress site against various attacks.
WordFence and Update Alerts
WordFence does a fine job alerting you to website updates. Sure, those "alerts" may come across as scary to many, but the alternative is that you don't get proper notice of updates. In particular, plugins can generate security lapses that could make your whole site vulnerable.
Simple to configure and if you don't understand what this or that does, use the tool tips.
Bottom line is that if your WordPress isn't secured, your site could be hacked, your server blacklisted, your users redirected or worse, your valued visitors could be infected with malware loaded on to your site.
Or like a recent client, you could find that your host pulled your site down because it was polluting a shared hosting environment.
Having said that, WordFence is one of the tools I upload to all client sites right after launching a WordPress CMS.
I routinely scour LIVESCAN results for offenders and occasionally permanently ban individual IPs or whole ranges. You can even deny certain legitimate bots, for example, Baidu, China's search engine, if the are not relevant to your clientele or SEO goals.
It isn't enough to just install WordFence, you got to work it and pay attention to both the newsletter and inbound emails!
Finally, WordFence is my main admin tool, but a proper defense of your content, SEO ranking and visitors demands aggressive due diligence on multiple fronts... (i.e. CDN, external/third-party site defense tools)
This plugin was suggested to me by a former coworker. After 3 attacks on my servers I had to do something to protect my websites.
This plug has been so helpful finding injected code and malicious content added to my website that it's pretty much a life-saver. I get immediate alerts via email about people logging in/out, if bad codes been detected and other such features that the free version has been more than worth the time to have it on.
If you don't have this on your WordPress installation yet, you're certainly missing an extremely helpful feature! Get it, it's worth the time to set the plugin up.
i love this plugin :-)
Excellent plugin, thank you. I suggest you add bulk actions (for blocking, make permanent etc) and it will be even better.
This is quite simply the best and most essential wordpress plugin. It is the first plugin I install on any new site. It provides unparalleled analysis of threats, it is intuitive with all information well presented.
A superb plugin. It blocks, protects and warns.
It's also seriously easy to use.
WordFence protects my blog against malicious logins. Gives me real time updates on security issues from my blog. Because my blog is non-commercial, I am not able to afford the premium version but I love the service they give me and grateful to the developers of this plugin.
Perfect. Saves a lot of pain.
Thanks to the developers :)
I would suggest to use this plugin to all WordPress users.
Simple to setup and to understand.
Thanks to the developers.
After months of using the free version I was more than happy with the protection on my main site. Now I have the premium version and it has helped me tremendously. The live view helped me pinpoint files that were suspiciously being viewed constantly. Certain countries were a big problem for me so I bought the premium version to block by country. Still tweaking the settings but so far I have eliminated 80% of issues.
If you really want to protect your site I recommend this plugin
