I have had very bad experiences with WooCommerce Multilingual.
Each release introduces new bugs that can potentially break your stores. I can't imagine all the hours I've spent trying to resolve issues that were caused by the latest of WPML. Each release, over and over again.
The User Interface is messy.
WPML drags site performance down, expect at least 5-6 second loading times after activating WooCommerce Multilingual.
Their support is mediocre, actually quite bad. Their first solution is to let you try and disable all other plugins, if that does not resolve the problems they advice to install their latest experimental build. Each follow up message to your support question takes at least a day.
As an example, these are consecutive issues occurring in a webshop of a client of mine over the past year and a half using WooCommerce Multilingual together with WPML - this is not a joke:
In the end these were all caused by WPML and WooCommerce Multilingual.
Please stay far away from this product!
Do not be fooled The average review over the past year is 2.7 stars. The average rating over the past 6 months is 2.0 stars.
Full of bugs in this plugin and WPML itself. The entire multilingual design WPML uses is not a very efficient one. Besides not working properly you site will be slower and will start taking up a lot disk space if you make full use of the options. I have a highly over provisioned dedicated server and even I notice it being slow.
I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing and wasting so much time on this.
The support from WPML is horrible. I even paid for it. They never fix things in a timely manner. I am sometimes told a fix is scheduled for sometime maybe 6 months in the future. For the price they charge they should have a much better quality product. Many parts of their service are broken and they are advising some people not to update or downgrade to earlier versions. The problem is that you sometimes need to downgrade WP as well to get it working properly. I have had tickets open for months with no resolution.
If you look at the WPML showcase you will not find a single site that is running WPML and WooCommerce that work properly even from the user side. If you want to throw away your money and see how it goes, go for it. If you want a real solid solution find something else. WMPL for WC is all hype.
WPML may work well for simple blogs but that is it. For E-Commerce it is a mess.
So I Have a few gripes, the main is that this plugin does not work well with other plugins (not ones I authored either).
Specifically WooCommerce Product Tabs Pro, even when meta-data is copied.
There are also some really annoying features, like not having categories that are translated update automatically (instead some reload icon is displayed, which changes depending upon which language you are logged in as)
Other than this, when looking into the plugin, it uses new post objects rather than attaching per-post data meaning there is a lot more human interaction than I think there needs to be, and the plugin places a higher load on DB and PHP (increasing load times dramatically).
Lastly, having to setup each site license in the WPML external site is a pain if you ever switch URL's or need to setup a dev or migrate environment, this plugin adds yet another thing to the list to-do...
Honestly glad my client paid for this and not me!
When I bought WPML I thought that it would be easy to make my site mulit-lingual.
Forget about that idea.
WPML alllows YOU to make your site multi-lingual. YOU have to translate "next page," "main menu," etc. EVERYTHING has to be hand translated by you.
What did I pay for? It doesn't have the website core translated, it only allows me to post a mirror page in another language. But, I must deal with so many little quirks and problems that the software is a nightmare to use.
In the end, I found that it was easier to just make a sub-domain in another language and link the pages together using little country flag photos and hotlinks.
Installing WPML is a nightmare because you can't really remove the software: it lingers everywhere and causes bugs. The company offers NO support if your subscription period has run out. I signed up, installed it, didn't work, deleted it. A year later, after a WP upgrade, having WPML bugs, contact the company, they DON'T EVEN HAVE A WAY TO REACH THEM UNLESS I BUY ANOTHER SUBSCRIPTION.
I wouldn't EVER buy WPML. Huge waste of time and nothing but problems.
with the latest update, some labels disappear, layout gets messed up and even some products turn into white pages just while activating WooCommerce Multilingual (for WPML). All other plugins have no effect on these bugs and all plugins are up-to-date. It is as bad as an alpha version or developments that you can expect on a sandbox. Reporting issues to onthegosystems doesn't help either. For years now, they are not able to fix the bugs or bring a stable version. It's a shame for paid plugins (WPML, Composite Products etc.) and I would not recommend it any further.
This plugin makes things too complicated.
Functions just doesn't work. Always have abnormal behavior.
I use it just because it is the only plugin that can bridge WPML and WooCommerce.
Garbage plugin. Period.
I wish I had never invested in the WPML suite. The plugin messed up my woocommerce install. I have installed everything up to date, including all WPML plugins and WPML woocommerce. I have been developing websites for 8 years now so not a total beginner either. Examples of bugs:
-Some products do not display on the admin pages (total catalog is 100+ products but only half of it is visible). This means that they exist, but you cannot edit them. How crazy! If I disable all WPML plugins my eshop starts behaving normal again.
-WMPL breaks the behavior of other very useful plugins, like product filters and bulk product edit
-WPML makes a big mess in your admin by duplicating everything. In some case it made even more versions than I asked for. If some day you decide to stop using it you end up with a terribly messy list of products, mixed up of multiple languages, and that will make your shop admin go nuts.
I wish I had known all this before. Please think twice before giving your $ to this tool, it does more harm than good. It's a total waste of time.
The software is far below release quality and has critical problem. WooCommerce has almost perfect translation in Japanese and works fine in Japanese. But once you install WPML plugins, it "translates" Japanese to English which is obviously unnecessary. In result, I have Japanese strings in English page and English strings in Japanese page. This is not my fault because I prepared new WordPress environments and installed many times. The support guy says this is "expected behavior”. I kept asking him almost 2 weeks but he didn't have any solutions.
yes, if you want to screw up your business, take a try
This plugin IS ABSOLUTELY NOT the solution for a multilingual e-commerce site.
I can assure you that you will regret it, and if you're not it's maybe because you don't know you're already dead.
I'm sorry, but sometimes you have to face the truth, this system is highly unreliable, and you can put all the effort and your heart to try to fix it but it's not possible.
This system (woocommerce + wpml + wcml) is released with really lethal sneaky bugs that produce inconsistency, bad behavior and want to kill you and your business.
Support is available (if you have paid) but bug fixes will come too late, you will have became a walking dead already.
It happens several times, that updates are released and not really tested before. In case of errors, bad support with long waiting time...
