The plugin works great, just be aware if you upgrade to the premium version that when your 1-year "support/updates" license expires you not only lose support/updates, you lose the ability to even download the old versions of the software that you had paid for.
This is poorly worded on their sales page, as they imply you will only lose the ability to get support or get the most recent updates to the product when your year expires. The reality is that you lose all access to UpdraftPlus premium entirely unless you continue renewing it every year.
The plugin internal design should be improved.
When I selected Dropbox, there was no easy eye-catching button which will tell me that, I'm missing to authenticate my Dropbox account with Updraft plugin.
Dear developer, please change auth link to button. So, anyone can easily notice. Else, for instance it was a little frustrating experience, when I'm continuously scanning remote storage, but there is not backup file.
All the best!
but did not like it, seems to split the backup into various files.
If you have a standalone WP site (not multi site) then it is very good software. However if you have a multi site (WPMU) then don't use it.
I don't recommend buying any add-ons as that changes your copy to a commercial version. Once you have the commercial version you have to subscribe to ongoing support to get updates for your copy of the plugin and its add-ons.
If you don't renew your subscription the commercial version then starts to harass you into buying support when it gets close to and past the renewal deadline and threatens that it may not work properly when it is not updated.
The free (non-commercial) copy stays up to date for free and works really good on a standalone WP site ONLY.
There is no way to stop the process once initiated (and no way to start over), delete unwanted operations or files. I can back up my files from my webhost's cPanel > mySQL quicker and easier AND more efficiently AND upload them to my Dropbox in less time I have spent fighting with this plugin. :(
The main plugin is fine, but restoration and migration should really only be used in a last resort.
I had a very specific instance in which I was unable to migrate manually. Let me be clear, IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES YOU SHOULD NOT USE A PLUGIN TO MIGRATE. They cause way, way more problems than they solve. I was facing a peculiar, unusual circumstance that prohibited migration through any other way.
The migration plugin is very, very far from perfect, or even good. But it is somewhat functional, which is more than I can say for any other one of the migration plugins I tried (part of this may be because my site is very large... others may work on small sites). So it was necessary and, thanks to their support, came through in the end.
Luckily, support is very good. My first query was not responded to appropriately, but afterward, the plugin staff provided excellent, amazing, and very responsive support. I only wish they had fixed these issues in the plugin and clarified the instructions so that it would not have been needed.
Useful plug-in but it pushes paid add-ons in a nag message at the top of the Add-Ons panel. The "Dismiss for 12 weeks" button really only makes it go away for a week, then it's back.
Very difficult to use, lots of links that I do not know what they are... and the worse... not backupping LINKS... my Notes inside...
This backup plugin is very basic in its free version. They ask you to pay for the premium version if you want some more. Not so intuitive to use. If you have to clone your WP website take a look at All-in-one WP Migration, which is definitely more complete and easy to use.
Been using UpdraftPlus for a few weeks, mostly because I was curious about their migration plugin. Turns out the migration plugin is good, but the basic backup plugin is fantastic ... so far. I'm still looking for the chinks in the armor.
Didn't take that much to find the hole. Works great if your site is small, but doesn't scale for larger sites. 800 mb and up - "FAIL". Same for the migration plugin that I wasted money on.
Small sites - 4 stars, a bit clunky.
Large sites - 1 star
Average - 2.5 stars.
