The complete and reliable plugin for managing custom post types, custom taxonomies and custom fields.
It works as advertized, is easy to use, and is very flexible.
Until you try to upgrade, that is. Then it says it's not possible to upgrade because I need to buy. Has been like this now for 3 weeks or so and it is very annoying to have the "upgrade" warning constantly there and not being able to do anything about it, and if I am to upgrade I need to purchase the full version.
It's OK to have a non-free software, but not when you advertise it as free.
EDIT: You can now register (either it was not possible before, or I didn't see how to do it) - which makes it work exactly as advertised. Fantastic tool which makes working with taxonomies easy and flexible, deserves 5 stars!
I loved this plugin, but I just went to update it and I couldn't. It seems they decided to make it a commercial paid plugin without notifying any of their users. So when everyone goes to update after building their sites with this crucial plugin, you can take their money. What a great business plan, offer for free and have people install and then without saying anything make it expensive and charge for it. This is sad.
I had a programmer build my site 2 years ago and he told me to update this plugin myself and I got hit with the $300 fee. He said it would be free for me to register and had no feedback when I said it wasn't. Too bad, but what is worse is I can't find a way to use it on a new project and post 4 pictures with names underneath on one page without hiring him again. I don't find the help forum easy to use. It took me 15 min to actually get through all the hurdles and post the question. The answer was off target though they tried probably.
Good product but I am hoping you create a video on what I want to do (just four photos of dentists 2 per row name underneath) or get included in a Lynda.com video. It should be simple right?
I have WordPress experience, between 5-8 years, building sites and managing them.
I just tried to update this plugin but they made it a commercial plugin where you have to pay yearly fees of $149 each or $299 for life time updates. This must now be the most expensive plugin for wordpress ever, I am already looking for a replacement.
This plugin sounds great, but once you actually dive in to try to do something, you quickly realize that the plugin is buggy and documentation is painfully bad.
Twice I had to give the plugin support team access to our server to figure out why things didn't work correctly. The second time, the answer was just that it's a bug and the developers are working on it. I ended up reverting to an earlier version of the plugin (which I had backed up, thankfully,) which was less buggy than the newer one.
I used this because I had a very specific task (parent/child relationships between custom post types) and in the end it basically worked, although the process was not easy. It left me wondering if it would've been more efficient to just code it manually in PHP.
If you just want to set up basic custom post types, I suggest doing it manually in functions.php. Then the Advanced Custom Fields plugin is excellent for custom fields.
Works like a charm and reduces significant development time. Great plugin!
- Not easy to follow
- No display code included, asks for purchase of expensive plugin
- Custom types added do not display :( with custom php (wondering why)
This plugin doesn't actually declare custom post types correctly as it has no facility to set the "support" options of the correct form of declaration.
Support is none existent, both on here and on the premium site.
I installed Types then paid for an add-on called Access. Access would not install properly. There is no place on the site to submit a support ticket. If you start a topic in the forum it gets buried quick. If you send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org it bounces. If you send a reply email to purchasing@wp-types it gets promptly ignored.
Better to create custom post types on your own.
