New to WP, which I installed on my own server; the server only allows remote login via SSH for security reasons.
I was dismayed to discover while attempting to install a theme that the theme installer only supports unsecured FTP. One quick Google search later I discovered this plugin, installed it, and it works perfectly. I was able to install my theme using SFTP.
Work like a charm. Thanks.
I was really surprised that this feature wasn't supported by wordpress, this plugin saved me a lot of time manually installing updates.
After upgrading to Ubuntu 16.04 and PHP7, I just couldn't get the auto updates using SSH2 to work, even though I was using pretty much the same configuration as with my old Ubuntu 14.04 server. PHPinfo() reported the SSH2 extension was installed, private and public keys configured correctly, folder permissions as well... After installing this plugin, the problem was instantly resolved.
simple and easy. exactly what i needed
Using this plugin in most if not all WP installs.
Just found out it even works on alternate ports, by appending them to the hostname as in:
22 being default for ssh
I was struggling to configure auto-updates with php ssh support provided by the "official" pecl extension. Gave up on the pecl extension and opted for this plugin, which works perfectly.
Selecting the ssh2 check and without using any private key works perfectly!
It's a necessary plugin if your server doesn't accept normal FTP connections
I created an account here just so I could leave a review. We've had a development server for a couple years, and it's always behind in updates because it's SFTP only. WordPress gets out of date, all the plugins, and any time I need to update a plugin, I had to drag and drop ZIP files via FTP, unzip in SSH, change directory names, then install in the browser, etc. Total disaster.
Works for updating WordPress in general, as well as individual plugins.
This plugin is a lifesaver. Pure genius.
