For sure minification is very hard, not only in WP but in all coding systems, especially if you got themes coded from other people and not by you and use pluggins. It needs patient and is an extra job that must be done in our days and especially now that google counts the pages speed in page ranks.
The thing i wanna say is Simple Minify pluggin, did and does a great job in the 99% of my web sites as long as a pluggin can do.Its a very good coded pluggin for sure it can take some updates, but the thing is that is working. If you use your brain and just some handcoding you can take great success. But even with this pluggin, the job is done. You just need to do some modifications and also test all of the pluggins that you use all the time, because the key is the compability between pluggins.Out there there is a hundred tools that can test your site and do modifications to do it better and faster. All you need is a good research a lot of coffee and be patient with the searching.
Also dont forget that a good hosting provider is the keyword, with some pluggins and the Simple Minify pluggin you can do miracles.
I am really positive with this pluggin and i really looking forward for uppdates and maybe extra paid options for dynamic minify tactics.
It claims to merge and serve files as one, but the pingdom speed tests say otherwise.
Before installing the plugin I had 119 http requests, and after still the same number of requests...
Not sure it actually did anything for my site. It did break my styles at first, but I opted not to compress those.
Maybe needs a little more work...
Tried the following minify plugins...
-- Better WordPress Minify
-- W3 Total Cache (disabled other plugin features)
-- Simple Minify (THIS ONE!)
Simple Minify was the best! Used variety of website testing sites, including Google's PageSpeed Insights, where I'm now getting 92/100 for Mobile & 98/100 for Desktop! I am using other non-minify plugins to help the score, but this minify plugin increased the score the most over any other similar plugin that I tried! Thanks!
I installed and tested.
It made everything from the header down disappear.
We also only saw minimal improvement in speed according to googles speed test tool.
Minification in wordpress is extremely difficult, esp if you have several plugins. All you can really do is to install as few plugins as possible. Minification really cannot be used effectively with wordpress. We have been developing in wordpress for many years and know this to be absolutely true.
Hope this helps someone
It works and do the job nicely!
Thanks for the work of Alessandro Carbone!
