Highly Configurable and does what it's supposed to
By , for WP 4.5.3

I needed a plugin that would let me add searching category and tag names to my default search capability. This plugin allows that and a whole lot more through the slew of configuration features it offers. I haven't had any problems with using it and would definitely recommend it to other WP users.

Better than expected

I am using a catalog plugin and this was better than thier search tool and it worked EXACTLY as I wanted it to. Thanks!

Good Plugin

Great plugin. Works as intended. Five Star.

Made my AFC metadata available to the index!

Works well with my Advanced Custom Fields data, it exposes or makes available any of my custom field data to the search query.

hate the advertising link
By ,

I have disabled the plugin because the advertising link that pops up in the backend looks spammy to me.

Being able to change the placeholder text WP's default search would be great

Used to be a Good Plugin, but No Longer
By , for WP 4.5.2

This used to be a good plugin but no longer. We are no longer using it on any of our sites.

There are several core issues IMO:

  • Lack of support - Every support request is going ignored. (Look at the support section...there are very few resolved issues.) I have reported issues through the support forum here, and directly through their website and communicated with them via email. With the issue I reported here on the forums, I even showed line by line what the problem was and provided clean code to fix it. That was almost 9 months ago. I can forgive an occasional code error if you fix it when reported, but not when you let it go this long, especially when the solution has been handed to you. (I'm a plugin developer so I have high standards when it comes to code errors.) Regarding issue previously reported through their site, and the communication by email, it was a bit ridiculous and nothing got fixed.
  • Lack of updates - the plugin does not seem to be updated anymore. If you look the 3 commits to the plugin directory in that time since I submitted my support request almost 9 months ago, they were either a version bump or very minor changes. And, they still didn't fix the issue I reported, even with the code fix provided. SMH.
  • Lack of attention to detail in the code - This was a pretty easy one to catch: It threw an error when you tried to save one of the main settings on the settings page. As in, if you literally copied and pasted the example they gave, it wouldn't validate. That's easy stuff to catch and should never happen. It might be forgivable if it was fixed with a patch the next day or something.

I'm sad to say it but I have to recommend not using this plugin anymore. I will happily change my review and rating if these issues get fixed and the plugin is actively supported again.

OK!

Works with Gantry 4 too!

Works perfectly with custom fields, fine code
By , for WP 4.4.1

Works perfectly with custom fields, and seems well written and documented.

Good but not extensible
By , for WP 4.3.1

I have been trying out different search plugins. This one is pretty good if you are looking for something that works with minimal configuration and setup. However, if you want to change things (e.g., search logic, excluding specific taxonomies or custom fields, choosing which post types and post statuses to include, the number of results shown per page, add filters, etc.), this is not very extensible (no developer hooks provided) so you would have to hack the core code.
