s2Member®—a powerful (free) membership plugin for WordPress®. Protect members only content with roles/capabilities.
This is such a powerful plugin. Yes, it may seem complex, but once you take the time to read through the docs, it really isn't. I moved over from another membership plugin (where I had had to keep an eye out constantly because several things were going wrong)...with s2member, I've had none of that. It handles everything so perfectly and their tutorials and knowledge base are fantastic resources. I'm planning on buying the Premium version soon. Thank you for a really awesome plugin.
Forget the support, the worst i ever had. Don´t help at nothing.
Always trying to pass the problem to other people.
If you buy this product to hide pages and content, forge it.
On search and fielter of the site, the private content will show.
And what they say to me, is that is the theme foult. And don´t help me. No even an information or guide line. And take 1 or 2 days to respond.
The worst support i ever had.
Sorry for my bad english.
Shocking bit of kit, If you use wordpress to avoid learning code THIS IS NOT FOR YOU!
Im having to edit php files to do the simplest of things, for example, you want more user levels . . .do you type in how many levels you want . . . no, you have to go recode the wp-config ?!?! I paid for a pro-license to be told that gem!!!!
Want to tell members when their account ends . . . is there a short code . . NO . . directions to install a 3rd party plug to allow php in WordPress control then a lesson on PHP coding!
This plug is not user friendly, you have to be a proficient php coder to get the basics to work. Not what you expect when you pay for a 'pro licence' word-press based plug-in. If I wanted to learn how to code php I could of bought a manual on that, not paid for a license that directs me on how to rehack itself using php coding.
But hang on a minute . . . .when you BUY a pro version of a product your really paying for support aren't you . . . . think again with this product. Be prepared to be deterred by about 6 pages of text to submit a question, with many hurdles to trip you up and claim that the kind of support you need (Probably very basic) isn't provided.
Want your members to have a choice on payment methods like they do everywhere else, want paypal and stripe?? Whats this plugs answer . . . NO, you cant, really simple . . . just no, pick ONE , we cant handle both.
Least user friendly WP-plug Ive ever seen. . . If you can code PHP from scratch this plug might 'amuse you', but then again if you can code from raw php why are you paying for a plug like this, if you want to build sites using php code why are you using wordpress??
Thank you for a great plugin. Everything seems to be working just as advertised. Although the free version has everything I need for my site, I will definitely be purchasing a license soon just to show my support.
Very usefull, thanks!!
I just want to say how much I like the new coupon codes table - this is a BIG improvement. Thank-you!
We use the Pro version of this S2Member for corporate based password protected websites and it literally has everything we need. I've dealt with support here too and they are a dream. Much respect!
In principal s2member is a great plugin - from the possibilities you get with it, it is pretty awesome for a membership plugin.
However there are a couple of catches that are simply not acceptable if you intend to really make money with your website!
1. NO INVOICES whatsoever. Yes you got that right, basically this plugin is impossible to use if you don't geoblock all EU customers using geoblocking plugins! IN EU you now need to write correct invoices following the VATMOSS directive. S2member cannot even write invoices at all - so this alone ruins it.
2. No working VAT model. You cannot properly set up VAT charging at all. It will not base the VAT on anything but user entered data. No IP checks, no country codes / credit card country codes checking from payment processor. So again - impossible if you have a single sale to EU! - what's worse - there is not even a possibility to have your user enter his full address on checkout. Checkout is instead only offering State, Country, Zipcode - not city, no nothing...
3. No email reminders without using additional plugins from 3rd party vendors. So suppose membership of a user is ending. There are no emails sent out to the user to remind him to prolong his membership. So basically you will lose out 30-40% turnover just because of this if you don't buy additional plugins.
4. Support - what is that? If the support doesn't like your question they simply ignore it. E.g. anything on the above shortcomings.
So in principle it's a great plugin, but it misses essential things and therefore I can only recommend it for non paying membership sites. It has really great functionality, but the polishing is simply missing and means basically if you use it professionally you better start hiring lawyers to defend you from EU and soon Japan authorities (as long as you live within any OECD country - e.g. also USA) because s2member makes it impossible to correctly attribute VAT and invoices. (you are liable from your first 0,01€ sale to pay VAT to an EU country if your customer resides in EU for digital products such as memberships.)
Right now the only way to stay more or less legal is to only allow Stripe as payment processor (meaning purchasing s2member pro) and pay for Octobat.com to manage your invoicing. (plus using a renaming plugin like say-what to change state to city).
I have installed it for 8 months now (pro for 6). It works fine and it was the best solution for connecting my windows applications with the membership level in my site.
Be prepared to read a lot of somewhat confusing documentation to get this set up. It is not very user friendly and in my opinion more complicated that it has to be.
It has some great features, but I have spent more time sending in support request to find answers to my questions than working with the plugin set up.
Literally weeks and I am really not doing anything majorly complicated.
They do have decent support, but I shouldn't have to be using it so much just to change some settings. The docs are hard to find any answers in.
I am giving it a three because I am hoping it will do EVENTUALLY do all that it is suppose to do. But I didn't expect to have to spend a full week setting it up.
(updated rating to a 1 - over three weeks working with this and only getting more confused.)
Preepare to spend a lot of time in the help forum with this plugin folks.
