I love the fact we can mess with php and else !! Thanks to be compréhensive ;)
I highly suggest you find an alternative piece of software.
I wasn't going to write this, i wanted to give them a chance to keep to their end of the deal and give me the support i need.
I have gone through each loop they have thrown at me to "hopefully" have them find out what the problem is, i have sent them the debug logs, sent them videos explaining the problem, each time they say its something else i have installed, such as a plugin, or a premium wp theme i paid for, when its not anything to do with those, its their software and they deny it all the time.
I'm a patient guy, but they guys have pushed me to the limit. I have a BIG site to build out 400+ pages, with a very complex membership structure due to the many services involved...
I've uninstalled the software, ive removed WP from my server, re-installed WP, then S2Member, with no themes except the ugly default one WP provides, no plugins, a raw install all the way...
the re-direct to a welcome page does NOT work. it keeps sending me to the members options page, time and time again even using the default wp theme.
2 months of my time has been wasted. I paid for the $189 unlimited site version... and im getting half effort replies like as if i paid 89 cents...
its unacceptable... they need to swallow their pride and listen to the customers...
Ive google searched high and low for solutions, lots of people are in the same boat as me with no help from Jason or anyone in the team... its appalling -- why put so much effort into a big project like this when you're not going to support it or live up to the terms they set; to give you 12 months of support -- its ridiculous...
they wont admit the problem is their end...
i suggest that if you want a good piece of software to use, is to google Sam's software: DLGuard --- i should of used this software instead, but I was looking for something that would accept stripe payment gateway.
Sam's support for DLGuard is AWESOME, that guys attention to detail is out of this world, he's always listening to the customers to make his software better... S2Member could learn a few things from Sam, that's for sure.
So I highly suggest to give this software a miss.
This is not a free plugin it's $89. Raamdev your response is exactly why no one should do business with you. Simply put, your plugin did not work for me, live with it and refund my $89 and move on. Is your business so bad you cannot afford to refund
$89. Don't rip people off.
S2Member displays a refund guarantee that is bogus and they will rip you off. My Web Developer was not able to install application without making complicated adaptations that were not acceptable. Upon notifying them of that they refused the refund. DO NOT USE S2 MEMBER. There are much better modern customer service oriented applications other than this bogus outfit.
I've been using s2member since about 2012 and in that time have created a fair few membership websites or in case simply used the amazing functionality for course booking / payments on non membership websites. The technology is second to none with incredible support. Jason Caldwell and his team do a great job and no wonder they have such a strong community within the membership plugin field. I would highly recommend this plugin to anyone along with ZenCache. 5 stars from me :)
This plugin is great and does exactly everything you will need to have a membership site. The staff is very helpful as well. I highly recommend it!
We moved over to S2 from PMPro, as we specifically needed some of the more advanced features like custom capabilities.
In my initial research, I was a little hesitant, concerned about reviews of 'too difficult to implement' and a 'lack of support' forum.
We've been here a couple months now, and all things considered, it's been a great experience. The Knowledge base is useful, and my concerns about lack of support have disappeared, as I've had a half dozen questions responded to and resolved in a timely manner.
Yes, there were a lot of options and choices related to setup, but not so many that I couldn't figure it out with the videos and kb and some email support. Ultimately, I think it's all those options and settings that makes for a really powerful and flexible plugin.
I originally wished that they took a more active role in helping with customization, but ultimately I get that they focus on support of the base stuff, and I got a great customization done for a fair price over on oDesk.
All in all, a great move for us.
Note: FWIW, although many of the features are in both Free/Pro, I should mention we decided to use the Pro version, which for us was worth every penny.
s2Member is an amazingly powerful plugin, but it is held back by the dreadful support and utter lack of documentation. To figure out how to do pretty much anything, you have to go into the source code to see how it works, or - obviously - buy the Pro version.
When you offer a free version as a taster to a 'pro' version, it would be better to make the free version usable. Crippling it by withdrawing support (like closing down your support forum) and pulling documentation reduces sales.
After researching many Membership plugins I believe this one is the best one for our needs. It was easy to install through the WP plugin page, and as a newbie to membership sites I found it much easier to set up than Paid Memberships Pro (which I had installed on another smaller project).
I have been on a steep learning curve and found their Quick Start Guide (which appears on the admin menu after installation) and YouTube videos to be very helpful.
I wanted a membership plugin that would work with WP user roles and this one does. I was initially a bit concerned to read (somewhere in their support policy) that they are unable to give support for sites that have modified user capabilities, because that's exactly what we need to do, to tailor our membership site to our needs.
And I can completely understand the reason for this - it is impossible for a developer to know the configuration of every possible plugin a user might have, and how they might interact.
Having said that, I have found in my experience that s2Member DO give as much support as is reasonable to expect. There is an easily accessible support center (see http://s2member.com/support/) ...and they actually have posts giving information about user roles and capabilities, AND how to lock them if you have altered them so that future updates of s2Member don't screw up your settings. That was very helpful and I've learned so much from the online support center and knowledge center. (Thank you!)
During set up and configuration I had three questions (maybe four) - I clicked a button on the support center - shot off a quick email and in every case received a reply within 24 hours.
It's still early days and up to this point, the plugin and the support has been excellent. We have s2Member framework set up now on a test site and we'll be going live within the next few weeks.. (at which time we'll be upgrading to PRO) I'm not expecting a totally smooth ride.. I'm sure there will be some teething troubles along the way (there usually is) but I'm confident that if I run into an issue with s2Member at least I can get a swift response... and that is a very important factor in going forward with a big project.
We have been having issues since the beginning with this plugin.
The latest one was most significant. After many weeks of weird income reports, we figured out that s2member allows users to update their Credit Card information to nonsense, but never validates that the information is correct. As a result, people were getting access to our membership without paying anything since they could enter bs info!! We probably lost $5,000 in revenue and several weeks debugging.
Other issues include horrible integration with Aweber. Also, support is the worst in the world.
If you have a choice, please don't touch this plugin and prevent yourself from countless nightmares.
We've been using S2 member for one of our membership download site and this plugin has been a godsend. The plugin has many features from membership levels, video streaming using Amazon cloudfront, payment gateway options and much more. On top of that, the support from the team is prompt and very helpful.
