The codebase is an abomination!!!
I've spent 6 hours just trying to find a hook for successful user registration and no luck. Obviously you've never heard of clean code? It seems quite clear that you guys never even thought about the design and logic behind what it was you where trying to create.
As an example, can you try and explain the logic behind this?
c_ws_plugin__s2member_pro_stripe_utilities::create_customer_charge($stripe_customer->id, $cost_calculations['total'], $cost_calculations['cur'], $cost_calculations['desc'], array(), $post_vars, $cost_calculations)
Here's a golden one:
foreach(array_keys(get_defined_vars()) as $__v) $__refs[$__v] =& $$__v; do_action('ws_plugin__s2member_before_custom_registration_field_errors_4bp', get_defined_vars()); unset($__refs, $__v); // Housekeeping.
The above code examples are just some of the nonsensical code I have seen throughout your codebase.
So, can someone please explain to me how I can hook into a successful user registration action? If you plan to reference me to the notifications, don't. It's not reliable.
Finally we have a solution.
We have wasted money on other plugins who claim they can integrate with third party tools or custom setups where you have another app running along your WordPress site.
Nope. None of those subscriptions are made to allow you to take full control of this. Only S2member actually has the capability to do all that heavy work for you!
You guys rock!
Oh, and yeah, customer service is great! my two support tickets were answered in about 8 hours.
S2Member is a great membership plugin BUT if you are a complete noob about code - simple coding - it may be complicated at first sight.
The good side of this is, if you understand how code works, that S2Member is much more flexible than other members plugin. You can manage very precisely what to show and to deliver to your members and it's a great tool.
The plugin does nice things for it's not that modern nor something great to use for any membership website.
The tech support is very bad; the first thing they said as a response to the first thread I created was "our team is so small" and if you ask any simple question, they'd say "hire a developer".
Imagine someone is telling you that they're small.
I think that Jason is the only one who knows what's happening and the others know nothing about the plugin.
Jason will respond nicely if knows the issue, if not, he will never respond to a message.
I recommend to make a very good research about any membership plugin before the purchase.
Try to look up the problems in the plugins and see the level of support offered on the free forum, monitor of the developers know what they're doing or not, you will understand that if you do some research here and there. Don't listen to the reviews.
it is a complete nightmare to work with.
it is so complex. stupidly over the top complex.
and it took me months to get working.
their t&c sucks, no refunds after 30 days. my website is very seasonal and i did not know that the plugin wasn't working properly until after the 30 days. absolutely no refund possible.
i paid extra for the pro addon. about £50 down the drain. it doesn't work very well. this is why:
payment gateways = x
want more than payment gateway for user to choose during checkout? you have to create different pages for each.
membership options = y
have more than 1 membership option? you have to enter the details for each membership option to create a 1 line of code to put on the checkout page. each membership options requires a line of code and these are different per payment processor.
= x x y combinations of code you must create.
membership modifications = z
then what about membership modifications? another page required and you have to enter details to get code for all that too.
= x x z combinations of code you must create.
this sucks. you should enter your membership prices once and choose your payment processors, then the plugin should create all of the code for you or create the page.
it's a bit of a nightmare and i highly advise people to stay away unless like somebody else said, you don't mind wasting loads of times trying to get it working. as after 30 days, no refunds. lol
try "simple membership" or something.
i would not have left this negative review if they would have refunded me but jason is extremely tight. i had genuine cause for not knowing plugin wouldn't work until after 30 days and he wouldn't entertain the idea. made my waste hours/days trying different things to fix the issue. every other plugin works (i have over 50 on my site) but this one didn't so i don't see why i should try clean installs and disable all plugins etc. if it doesn't work on my current setup i don't want it!
have a nice day!
if u have client you must have thise plugin
I'm using S2Member Pro.
I spent a lot of time setting this up the way I want it, and it still has a few bugs. It helps, if you know some coding, like basic PHP and HTML. This Plugin is not for the average user, but if you know what you want, you can set up killer dynamic pages !! it's the most powerful Membership site on the market today. I've tried them all. If you just want a cookie cutter member site, that you can set up quickly, you can use this software, but then you are not using everything that's available to you.
I recommend black listing all IP's except your own in wp-admin folder. I've noticed a lot of brute force attacks on my site as soon as I installed this software. It's best if you are running SSL.
I have tried many membership plugins over the time (and scripts too). By far this is the most powerful and overall best membership plugin ever. This plugin makes my life so much easier.
I've contacted them a few times, usually about problems with my pro version, they are VERY slow to respond & when they do it's usually something like "google XYZ" or "shut down every other plugin & install a new version of WP" solutions are impractical and as I said exceptionally slow. This isn't just me, google it & you'll see allot of people whit the same complaints, I can't imagine a company in another industry that could be so poor in customer service and stay in business but I guess once they have you $$$ nothing else matters.
