The most popular WordPress gallery plugin and one of the most popular plugins of all time with over 12 million downloads.
Thank you for the effort and time you've put into providing this resource. Great plugin. I'd recommend.
Yet it's become very unrely-able :(
This is a full-featured gallery plugin, and you can do a lot with it. Two thoughts though:
1) The documentation blows. Worse than having no documentation ... the website has inaccurate, outdated documentation. So you think you have the answer, and then you go crazy triple-checking your shortcode syntax and wondering why your gallery isn't working right. Bad bad bad. You shouldn't push a release until the docs are up to date. Software 101.
That said, support hooked me up with the new, correct shortcodes quickly, and were very friendly about it. So, only 1 star off for this.
2) The premium filmstrip gallery is not amazing and is limited in what it can do. So get Royalslider, which legitimately is amazing, and makes NextGen really shine.
Overall I've been able to accomplish what I wanted with this plugin. I had to hack it a bit, and I had to make a couple compromises, but it ended up fine. And the uploader makes it sort of the only game in town if you want to build an interactive gallery-based website. So there's that.
The NGG site we built is at [ link redacted, please do not post links in reviews ], if anyone wants to see it in action. That Royalslider interface though ... so sweet.
I have used the NextGEN Gallery plugin for almost a year. Previously I hosted my photos at an 'award winning' photo site for five years. I wanted a WordPress site and did not want to use a photo theme. After playing around with various photo related plugins, I chose the NextGEN Gallery plugin. It is not perfect, but it does what it has to.
I purchased the add-on for premium support. You also get the PLUS add-on. Becky, Cias, and even Scott Wyden Kivowitz responded promptly. This add-on is a good deal for WordPress novices like me or people moving over thousands of photographs to a WordPress platform.
Things that I do not like with NextGEN Gallery is the voting system for ideas (PLUS or PRO membership required). Many ideas that are common sense or easy fixes should just be done. The voting system at the 'award winning' photo site is pretty much a joke and hopefully NextGEN Gallery will not go down that slope.
A good point about NextGEN Gallery is its popularity. Because this is a very popular plugin and owned by Photocrati, it is a good bet that any potential plugin exploits will be immediately patched. That is a big plus.
Maybe one day the WordPress core will have use folders in their media library. Then we can all get rid of these photo plugins. Until that day happens though, NextGEN Gallery does what it has to do.
Awesome plugin i have ever used .
I have been using NextGen Gallery for several years and have always enjoyed the quality of the pictures and ease of adding more. I added the NextGen Gallery Sidebar widget and couldn't get the background color to appear transparent. I requested assistance from my Web Host and NextGen Gallery. Becky from NextGen Gallery was eager to assist me and find a solution. Soon she had the widget working perfectly with a transparent background. I will always recommend NextGen Gallery for their quality products and excellent customer service!
Need i say more?
Very happy with the gallery. Using it with photocrati and it's far slicker, and it's also very good on tablets and phones. The responsive side to it is excellent as you can see on my wave photography website:
NGG is the backbone of my website http://www.lightsniper.de for >2 years now. The support is really fast and effective if anything isn´t working out.
My Gallery page suddenly starts to show a homepage! I cant get list of albums. There's no logic at all!
