The most comprehensive & user-friendly mapping solution for WordPress
The features, the simplicity, the support, and the look of this plugin are fantastic. I am able to insert responsive maps, upload gps files from my smart phone, build place markers with html... the list goes on and on!
I am amazed at the value provided by the developer Robert Harm, and out of the WordPress community, his name is one of only a few that I remember because of his outstanding product which is designed for people with only the most basic knowledge of how to use IT skills.
Best of the best in my opinion.
It's cluttering the wordpress interface with all sorts of crap and it's trying to sell you the PRO version on every step.
I am a traveler and geotag almost all of my photos, and have a lot of location-based content. I've been searching for a good mapping solution for my blog for over a decade now - I even (started) building one myself. For my latest site redesign, I had a lot of specific requirements which I thought would require a custom development effort. I wanted to use Stamen designs watercolor map tiles, I wanted to be able to import many markers at once from my photos, my foursquare checkins, etc. and the Pro version of the plugin supports this all with ease. Actually, at first the import functionality wasn't available, but when I wrote to Robert saying that it would be really cool if it were, it was already on the list for the next release. I've found that as a plugin developer he not only responds to customer feedback, he's often thought of things -- and implemented them -- before I can request them. Another thing that I love about this plugin is the way that it alerts you to problems caused by other plugins. I think we've all had those situations where we install a plugin or two, then later discover something has gone haywire with another, and have to backtrack to figure out the problem. I love that the plugin can detect outside conflicts and report them immediately. It's undoubtedly saved me hours of troubleshooting.
Finally, as someone that has thousands of places to map, I was concerned about scalability. I've thrown 4 years of geo-tagged photos, blog posts and check-ins at this plugin, and it handles it all, in a single map, with ease. I've tried a lot of other mapping solutions, and this is always the killer - they may seem fine until you have a few hundred pins, and then grind to a halt. Not so with this plugin. I've even used it for some fun dynamic purposes like having attendees at our local TED conference map where they'd traveled. You might imagine that's a lot of places collectively. I totally trusted the plugin, and it did not disappoint - and the gorgeous full-screen mode was a big hit with attendees exploring the map on a big screen.
A lot of plugins seem to be side projects - with so-so support and infrequent updates. That's not the case here. The plugin is updated regularly and the support is top-notch. The updates are managed professionally and there are never any unexpected surprises!
I don't normally get emotional about blog plugins, but I could go on for ages about how much I love MapsMarker Pro. The upgrade is absolutely worth the price and then some.
On Sunday, I posted my support request to http://wordpress.org/ forum, then the developer has answered me within 30 mins with complete solution.
Even free version, he dedicates such a precious customer support for his users.
I truly appreciate this usable plugin and his extraordinary supports.
Looked at all the map making plugins and the pro version of maps marker is by far the most powerful.
Lots of great features, easy to use, and excellent support! The pro version has a lot of added features, and is inexpensive, especially when compared with other plugins and mapping services.
The map layer customization feature is awesome and anyone can use it. I'm running a site with 52 custom maps and (at this time, we are adding every day) 37,842 markers.
A couple things I learned.
1. The Map Marker Google Geo Coding feature works really well. Being that we were adding a lot of markers, we used "http://geoservices.tamu.edu/" for geocoding. You can geocode 20,000 markers on this service for $20.00. However, if the zip was not included, the Geocodes were not exact, so we excluded records without zips after the first couple of batches and ran them through the Map Marker Google Geo Coding function...and the Geocodes were exact.
2. The Bulk Import/Export feature is awesome! It can take a bit of time to upload if you are geocoding the records when uploading...we found that it was approx 193 seconds for a batch of 500 records. If the records are already geocoded, you can load 2000 records in 20 seconds or less.
The Export feature is very useful when bulk editing is needed. For example, we assigned a batch of 800+ records to the wrong layer. I exported that layers records, sorted them on a spread sheet, changed the layer number and upload them back to the server in less than 5 minutes. Nice!
3. The features I would like to see added in the future:
a. While the creating a map with multiple layers feature is good, if you have layers with large quantities of markers, the resulting map is too slow.
The solution? An ability to assign markers to more than one layer.
b. We have been able to customize the appearance of the popup windows with some basic css, but it would be really nice to see a simple feature that allows for customizing the popups in the settings area...no biggy, but if you are not comfortable with basic css, then this could be very helpful
4. We have a bunch of maps that were created in Google Maps Engine Pro. At this time there is not way to load these maps to Maps Marker Pro (unless I am missing something). The reason? The map layers can only be exported as KML, but there is no feature for importing KML in Maps Marker Pro. Not sure what this entails...but would be a nice option.
We tested (1) Mapify (didn't work out of the box and the support is not good), looked at (2) iMaps, but the cost for us, because we have maps with over 2000 markers, was $595....and the maps reside on their servers.....so you have no control over what happens to them in the future...and finally, I don't want my maps controlled by a Mainland Chinese company...we corresponded with the techs and the service attitude was, "It's custom", send us the specs and we will give you a price...(they wanted $1500 to add a driving directions link to the popups...HAHA)
Again, great plugin, great price, great service!
This is a really great plugin. I have tried many different mapping solutions over several years. None come close to being as good as MapsMarker. It is very easy to use and error free. The full screen using HTML5 and the geolocation are amazing features. Highly recommend.
This is the best map plugin for wordpress and the support is excellent!
Somehow W3 Total Cache's Minify plugin broke two of the Java Scripts - use at your peril - and eventually I called in Robert for help. He spent hours trying to find a solution, with excellent communication back and forth. Although our eventual workaround wasn't perfect, it certainly wasn't for lack of trying. In fact, his idea was creative and pretty nifty. As for the plugin, whether working at full functionality or limited, it's just plain fantastic - can't be faulted!
This is the best plugin that I ever used. Now I can create google maps without any problem.
