Imsanity automatically resizes huge image uploads. Are contributors uploading huge photos? Tired of manually scaling? Imsanity to the rescue!
Seems to work quite well for us. We set it for 1800x1200 max, at 80% quality. An example test showed that without this plugin, the original was 4.7MB (4272x2848). After installing the plugin, the original-size image uploaded at 211KB (1800x120). A savings of 95% ! And 211KB is plenty for website images of that size. Since many of our clients don't seem to manually re-size images before they upload into posts, this plugin will be GREAT. (One other note: No change to the medium / large images that actually get used in the posts, which is good. I only noticed a change to the "original", which is what is used for the lightbox pop-up.)
I was hoping for better than plugins i use. I uploaded a 35kb image and it turned into a 76kb image. I optimize before uploading, but from the reviews i thought it would at least stay the same.
I highly recommend this plugin and install it on every site I build. It saves clients, many of whom are not familiar with image processing, from having to bother with resizing images before they upload.
Resizing on upload works perfectly and the bulk resize seems to work as well.
Nice settings and controls.
It would be great if there were an inline ability to override the resize. Ideally restricted by user role:
I was thinking about adding it this way:
Add multi checkbox field on the settings page for "Allow these user roles to override resizing"
[ ] Author
[ ] Contributor
Then on the upload pages include a checkbox for those user roles for "Do not resize" that is unchecked by default. Add a note for the other roles that "Uploaded JPG images will be resized to a maximum of ??x??."
Finally, I think the bulk resize falls down with lots of images (my media library is 50k+ images and I only see about 100 or 200 images returned. Frankly that it doesn't just die means the plugin is coded well and doesn't try to query too much, but I don't obviously see a way to query more or page the results. Frankly, it doesn't bother me because I wouldn't run it live on that site anyway just a minor comment.
I have a number of sites where multiple users of varying ability and knowledge are uploading Mahoooosive images straight from a camera, this plugin did a fantastic job with the bulk edit function , worked flawlessly. I use backupbuddy on my sites , here's a quick example -
site backup size before - 1.3 GB ! whoops
site backup size after - 256MB :)
I'm running Genesis and DWB , it's all good.
If you're working with non tech-savvy people, you can't live without this plugin.
Works as advertised and resizes jpgs and pngs based on the dimensions you set. Wish there was some greater control over which images get resized, as well a "restore to original uploaded" option for those images needing to be larger than most. Otherwise, a really good plugin.
I'm currently resizing about 1.5GB of giant images in a clients' upload folder. This plugin is a godsend! THANK YOU!
I just installed this and tried it out for the first time with a 4608x3072 image, 3.91mb in size, and it saved to the database with a max width of 1024 as specified in the settings. Worked like a charm!
Users are going to upload massive photos - but imsanity cuts them down to size with a minimum of fuss.
