This plugin helped stop my out of control spam issues...
Just installed this but it does not display a checkbox in the latest version of WP. Will this plugin be updated any time soon?
Missed checking the stars, I give this a 1 star right now, NOT 5 star... cannot change that now!
Who here has ever said "gee I sure love getting spam comments on my website/site blog"?
Right. No one has ever said that. Spam is super annoying, and while Akismet is pretty good at blocking spam comments from being approved G.A.S.P is a great second line of defense against spammers and spambots. It's easy to install and it's easy to use. Making people read a captcha phrase or solve a math quiz can be annoying (especially when the captcha phrase is hard to decipher, like is that a g or is that a q sometimes you just don't know).
G.A.S.P is simple plugin for people to use. They just have to check a box. No fuss. It works. End story.
I have been using Growmap for the past 3 years. Every spam protection plugin was a disaster before Growmap.
This plugin is a life saver to protect you from all of the comment spam you can receive on your site.
Plus, the plugin is smoother and more light weight than Disqus and other comment systems.
Does exactly what it promises and no interference with other plugins.
I had lots of issues with other plugins that added an extra field regular commenters wouldn't see. The idea was that spammers accessing comments through a back door would fill in that field and immediately be identified as spammers. But all those caused issues for my real audience who wanted to comment. This plugin solved that by requiring legit commenters to identify themselves (easily) as legitimate. Sure, spammers who just troll sites and manually comment can get through, but that's the problem with spammers, isn't it? There's no single way to block them all.
The easiest and quickest way to cut down on comment spam. Works great.
I've been using Growmap for over five months now, and my comment spam went from nearly 300 per day to zero. I haven't had to change the checkbox's name once. Moreover, it didn't reduce the number of legitimate comments. You can see the results of my little case study here.
Plugin appears to work very well. Had to make a minor style change to get it to integrate well with my page as the checkbox width was inconsistent; this was easy to do as all that was required was to comment out line 322 which contains:
gasp_cb.style.width = "25px";
Other than that, the plugin does what it claims and does it well. Would love to have a stats page just to see how many attempts were bounced but I guess that would require persistence and I do like how it doesn't require additional tables in my WP DB.
