Groups is an efficient and powerful solution, providing group-based user membership management, group-based capabilities and content access control.
Easy to install; allows to overwrite the native WP roles in a flexibel way. You grant capabilities to a "group", and add each WP user to one of your groups. Then you work on your pages and set up required capabilities for some pages - and only logged-in users, which belong to a group with those capabilities, can see the pages. Exactly what you need for a "Members only" space. And it fits to my WP version 4.2.2. Excellent!
Using it for a year now, happy!
I'm using this to sell eBook subscriptions via WooCommerce - it's working brilliantly! I've had a lot of teething trouble along the way, due to my own lack of experience, and have found the support invaluable.
This is a great plugin to create advanced member groups inside WordPress.
Great plugin. Great support. Very useful for controlling who can view what. The only place I can see for improvement, is making it go a step further and have it control who can add/edit content. Then it would be truly in that CMS realm and help with a shortcoming WP has had for a long time.
This plugin could limit the different to show with the member of the different role. This is what i need!
"Usage of the [groups_member] and [groups_non_member] shortcodes to limit visibility of content to users who are members of a group or users who are not members of a group. Multiple comma-separated groups can be specified."
Are APIs available to assign and remove group to users? If yes, are the sample code and documents to do that?
This plugin is nonsupported... bullshit!
Very good plugin, which complies at further builds on the existing logic in WordPress. This means it almost feels like a natural extension of WordPress.
I'm using it for an intraweb, where i manage group of clients which have their own info pages etc. All managed by the Groups plugin.
In essence you can make an entire page, post or even custom post types visible to only a specific group. But you can also enclose specific parts of a page with a shortcode defining which group can see that part of the page. And yet another cool behaviour is the fact that a menu point is only displayed if the user is part of the group set on the referring page.
Prepare to have to wrap your head around the plugins concept and work out, but once you do you'll find it wonderfully flexible.
P.S. I also purchased the authors premium newsletter extension, which makes it easy to mail all members of each group individually. Highly recommended.
Actually I also bought the authors premium forum plugin, but that one is a bit to rough on the edges to work for me as a forum (its more like a string of standard wordpress comments for groups).
Thanks itthinx for making the great Groups plugin, and keep it up. Feel free to release more premium add-ons. - I'm certainly in the market for them ;).
Very clean and useful plugin. Awesome WP back office UX, well documented code and easy to use API, even for a non WP expert like me :) My next steps are to use it with the Paypal extensions and to include BuddyPress pages protection, if possible.
Thx for your great work,
