Gmedia Gallery - powerfull media library plugin for creating beautiful galleries and managing files (from creator of Flagallery plugin)
Author sends emails to give his plugins positive reviews. Why? Because the good ones have dissapeared. So he claims.
Truth is the plugin is outdated, uses Flash for gods sake, is not responsive, has limited configuration options, limited skins (and those skins are old) and above all; it slows your website down. Bonus: Author rather sends emails asking for positive reviews than giving support to users with issues.
Don't believe it? His first mail asking for positive reviews dated March 3, second one July 3. Now go and look up reviews around that time.
If it was a good plug-in he wouldn't need to ask for five star reviews.
my rating 0... sorry for hard comment
No help anywhere. No straightforward step-by-step instructions in what to do. No video. Nothing.
Nothing on the company's website either: no help, no faq, no instructions. All they have is a discussion forum, which is ridiculous.
The fact that the plugin makers can't be bothered to create instructions anywhere demonstrates [personal comment moderated]
When you start to use it, it is fiddly and awkward. Have to try to guess how everything comes together by trial and error.
Even the demo on the company's home page isn't working.
The audio won't play on some browsers with the latest versions. Audio is the only reason I selected this plugin originally. It takes a lot of work to get all your music in the library so when it stops working its a real pain.
Let me know when it's working again.
There is some problems in free version.
Really wanted to like this. NextGen had just done a major update and they were having lots of issues, plus I didn't like how small they had made their thumbnails. We decided to let NextGen work out their issues and try to find a gallery plugin that would work for us in the meantime. This is when I found Gmedia! Easy to understand once I poked at it for a couple minutes and I loved the size of the thumbnails.
We use galleries for our photography that we do at conventions. This is a very time sensitive thing as we are uploading multiple images per day and getting many views so people can find pictures of themselves. When I found Gmedia, I uploaded a couple photos and went to bed. The next day when I went to upload another chunk, it said everything was uploaded and when I looked at my site to confirm, they were all there! But looking at my site in incognito, or other computers, the new images weren't there. What? I found out that I could see the newly uploaded images because I was logged into WP. Huh. Weird. Well okay, let me just delete the whole album and upload it all again and see what happens...
It works! All the images are there and I can confirm this on other computers as well. Later that night, when I tried to upload another chunk, IT DID THE SAME THING. No new images showed up.
I decided to go to the forum to get some help. Developer was very prompt and suggested that I just needed to clear my cache. Okay, fair enough. Cache issues are frequent with plugins and webpages. Cleared cache on all computers. Same thing. Cleared server cache. Still nothing. So I took a poll on my facebook. 95% of my friends could NOT see the new images that I had tried to upload. A grand total of 2 people could. Developer still insisted it was a cache issue.
So we called the company that hosts our server. No cache issues, no other issues with our site. So I just said f*** it. I don't have time for this. Deleted the album, made a new one, new images appear.
Now today the images wont open on Firefox. My dad actually alerted me to this (I use Chrome so I didn't notice). He tested it on his work computer and home computer. The album worked on Chrome, IE, and Safari but not Firefox. It's just unacceptable for us. A lot of our users use Firefox and for the images to just not open? Nope! Went back to NextGen. I can deal with tiny thumbnails because at least the plugin works.
Trying to add the previous, fabulous plugin (GRAND/FIA) on a new site. Old plugin has been removed.
It's been replaced with this beta - that should be called an Alpha. The beta doesn't handle music - he's working on it. The beta comes with zero documentation. The link to "Get Help" leads nowhere. The link to "Overview" just takes you to the not-ready-for-prime-time Gallery library.

Welcome to the "ship the 'I have a dream'" paradigm of the 2010's.
