Best Way to seamlessly integrate Google Custom Search Engine in WP
By , for WP 4.2.2

I'm sure it can become even better, but it's already a very cool plugin.
If you like the power of Google Custom Search, but prefer to see results in the standard wordpress search page instead of an iframe with Google-like page, this is what you're looking for.

Requires a Google API key, but doesn't specify which type of key

I was unable to get this plugin working at all, despite trying every type of API key I could imagine (and getting different error results each time).

How to find Google API Key
By ,

Just a heads up, Google recently changed their interface, so to find your API key, you need to:

  1. Go to the Google Developer Console (https://code.google.com/apis/console)
  2. Create a new project
  3. Within that project, click "APIs & Auth" in the sidebar, and then click "APIs"
  4. Search for "Custom Search API" and click the "Enable API" button
  5. Within the Custom Search API section, click the "View reports in API console" link
  6. On the "View Reports" page, click "API Access" in the left sidebar
  7. About halfway down the page, click the "Create new Server key..." button
  8. You can leave the "Accept requests from these server IP addresses" field blank, and press "Create"
  9. Grab the "API Key" that was just generated. It will be a random string of characters, letter, and numbers.

Hopefully that helps. Just a note - this was written April 6, 2015, so if Google updates their interface after that time, these steps may no longer be the same.

Easiest I've Ever Used

This plugin really does what it says it does. I've tried about 4 other plugins (some free some premium) but none even came close to this.

Confusing/PAIN to setup! But Google running native onsite!
By , for WP 3.9.2

I must admit... finding the info on google IS THE HARD PART!

Visit https://console.developers.google.com/project/761778631924/apiui/api?

Look for APIs & auth> APIs > Custom Search API > and setup.

PLUS Go to https://www.google.com/cse/all and getting the (CX) is a pain.

But ONCE you copy those two little lines of code into this amazing plugin... you will HATE that you missed hundreds of sales without it! I've watched people ("real-time" google analytics) and almost feel the frustration when the person doesn't find what they are looking for!!! This plugin give you the POWER of GOOGLE right in the simple search bar that is already in the theme! This plugin is so under rated... It took me FAR too long to find it.

TAKE THE 20 min to figure it out... this is a MUST HAVE plugin!!!!

Nice Work

This is what a GCSE integration should be!

It might be worth noting on the admin page that a Server key is needed rather than a Browser/Android/iOS key.

Now Search by Google's Power

Google's power BEHIND your wordpress ...
Fantastic
But more options is required, for example it is required to limit display of categories or tags or homepage in results ...
Thank you

Excellent!

Got exactly what I wanted, a custom google search box that fit perfectly into my two column blog. I think the instructions could be a little more detailed for non techie people but I got through it, so thanks! :-)

This is great

None of the Google branding and much more accurate searching. Hopefully it doesn't make my site so popular I need to start paying for the extra searches! Good work.
