Flare is a simple yet eye-catching social sharing bar that gets you followed and lets your content get shared via posts, pages, and media types.
I have been using flare for the past month and I've found it very useful. However, a few days ago (I'm not sure when), I updated it and found out today that I've been displaying ads for a company called Filament with this plugin. So, I've been unknowingly spamming my users with ads that I didn't intentionally place there. These ads were not present with the original version I downloaded.
They didn't warn us, there is not consent to display the ads, and there is no opt-out. It seems crazy to me that a company would lure users into using their product then use that product, without the consent of website owners, to spam their advertisement on every website using the plugin. It's simply disrespectful to the userbase.
I will never use Flare or any product by Filament or Digital Telepathy again.
Nothing else to add.
Great looking plugin. Very useful.
This Plugin Goes DOWN:
Too many problems:
Too greedy for links.
Version 1.2.3 - "AD" button without optout - WT....?
"That update didn't fix anything. In fact, it made it worse. Now the Pinterest count doesn't even show when hovered over. Not to mention we have to deal with that lousy new purple AD button."
I recommend Digg Digg
ads have been added to the last version, without optout. good reply from the team a few days later, with the new optout. Hope we will get a linkedin follow button soon ;)
2 Days ago I was ready to sing the praises of Flare - looks cool, shares well, no glitches, nicest sharing tool I have used. I recently switched from Digg Digg. THEN yesterday I did an update, and voila - my neat little row of sharing buttons has been invaded by a purple "ad" button which I (and many other people complaining on the forum and support page here) can't remove! What's Up guys - please tell me how to remove this or I will be forced to delete the plugin and go elsewhere. BUT tell me how to remove it and I will delete this, write a 5 start review and be back as a happy advocate ready to tell everyone about your plugin!
Recent update adds another follow icon to your posts that looks exactly like the twitter logo except its purple. Its advertising for some random company I know nothing about and the mouse over on it looks sloppy and unprofessional.
I deleted the 1.2.3 version of this plugin and reinstalled the 1.2.2 until I can find something else.
Love this plugin. You can have a transparent background, use the colors that work best for your site. One of my social media friends loves it has the Twitter share feature "via @yourname" so the writer is credited.
I found this plugin when I was searching for a DiggDigg replacement which I thought was not particularly attractive and updates getting behind.
Only downside, needs more social networks added (Instagram and MySpace).
I've used a LOT of plug and play social sharing plugins in the past. This one is my new default. I've gone from 1-click Share/Retweet, to Digg Digg, to Flare. The only real feature it's lacking is easy to add share features to insert via shortcodes or PHP snippets. That's not a deal breaker though, because it's an easy enough thing to figure out on your own.
Such a great plugin. I have spent the last couple hours looking for a nicely designed share plugin for the sidebar of my website. I installed Flare and what do you know..Exactly what I wanted. Thank you very much!
