Add Facebook social plugins and the ability to publish new posts to a Facebook Timeline or Facebook Page. Official Facebook plugin.
Installed and went to enter App Id ID and Secret and then selected "save". Nothing happened. Tried a few times. Nothing.
Unless you're more interested in Facebook app development than in actually using your WP site or interacting with human beings, WALK AWAY. Delete this plug-in, and hug your loved ones. The only way to make this thing work is to teach yourself to navigate the trainwreck that is the Facebook Developers site, and to keep on coming back to it each time Facebook breaks the custom app you spent so much of your time banging your head against the keyboard trying to figure out how to make it work. In particular, if you want to use the feature that posts your WP articles as updates on FB, you will find it less time-consuming and frustrating to simply post those FB updates manually. A carefully crafted piece of software can save you lots of time in the long run, but this is a half-baked mess, and will have the opposite effect.
Do yourself a favor and use the Add Link to Facebook plugin instead.
You still have to set up a Facebook app, which is confusing in itself, but at least the Add Link to Facebook plugin is easy to understand and links up to your FB App easily.
After trying unsuccessfully for hours with the "Official" Facebook plugin, I was able to start publishing blog posts to a Facebook page with Add Link to Facebook plugin within a few minutes.
Maybe Facebook should just stick to completely changing their unbelievably convoluted and confusing development tools every few monts.
Installation of plugin went fine, I'll give it one star for that. But after activating version 1.4 of this plugin my blog went offline immediately. So I'm afraid that's all the stars it's going to get from me. Browser window showed some kind of permission error involving incorrect paths to php files in my. Could't even log in. Had to use ftp to get into the plugins folder on the server and delete this facebook plugin to get the site back online again.
So as far as my experience with this plugin goes, it has at least one serious bug: It can cripple your blog.
It's just really hard for me to figure out the FB apps stuff. Within WordPress it's fine, but the fact that you have to go to the FB apps developer page to make things functional is just driving me crazy. I go there and I feel like I get stuck in loops:(
I was looking for a simple Facebook widget where visitors could see other Fb followers and also like the Fb page.
But the width of the widget is always returning to 292px and killing the looks. I disinstalled it in 5 minutes flat.
One of the most buggiest plugins I've even seen. In fact, this just might be the most buggiest plugin on wordpress.org
Half of the features don't work and options are not saved even after hitting "Save" 10 times. Way to go, Facebook!
Just a little better than worthless actually. Can't even put the Facebook buttons or faces etc in a widget. Got to have a Dev account to even use it. Not to mention the information it's gathering on users...
It's a wonder how Facebook has even made it this far. Oh Well, what do you expect from a Developer who stole Facebook from one of his clients.
I'm sure that when (if) this plugin eventually works, it'll be all daisies and ponies.
Until then, you'll have to walk through spades of convoluted, incomplete and wrong setup information, provided by Facebook themselves or others.
I'm confident that the "walk-in-the-park" howto worked at one point, but it doesn't correspond with how the world — and the Facebook app creation pages — look now.
To put it simply: It's impossible to follow Facebook's guide, because the places and details it guides you through don't exist anymore.
Add to that that the need to explain what exactly it is you're doing, why, and what the final result will be (apart from making the WordPress plugin work, of course), is zero. So trying to figure out yourself how you should tackle the new strange interface options is hopeless unless you're already a Facebook App developer (I guess). I'm a professional web developer, but apparently that's not enough.
A horrible, horrible experience.
In 'Facebook Setting > General', I copy App ID & App Secret from developers.facebook.com/apps to fill these fields and it keeps empty my setting after I click 'Save Changes'.
No idea why this is happening. I just want a Like button & Facebook comment box on my blog.
