Reduce file sizes for images in WordPress including NextGEN, GRAND FlAGallery and more using lossless/lossy methods and image format conversion.
What a horrible experience. It's called Ewww for a reason. I trusted the high number of downloads. Cost me time, money and embarrassment with my client. It kept hanging during the optimization. Little did I know it was deleting images.
Very bad experience on a shared hosting website. Half of all my clients images crashed and could not be recovered without recovering a back-up. Hours of work gone.
Furthermore it made the website very slow, which is odd for a website on fast servers with SSD and the latest updates.
For me a NO GO!
I installed the plugin, because google said our site needed it optimize the images. https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/
I run the test of google after the plugin said all our images were optimized, but nothing happened, the test said the same again.
No work for me.
I checked the loading time after bulk optimizing with https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/ and it was on one of my sites 0 points and on another one 1 point of 100 better. Thats why I uninstalled it.
Would not install on it's own. Gave errors that several files were missing, but they were in the folder and were readable / writable.
This is not a "plug-in" if it will not easily plug into an existing site.
The plugin does not compress the images enough, if you want to have a a pagespeed score without "optimize images" you need to either do it yourself or find another plugin. This is especially true for jpg files.
Followed through on the install & config and the site had NO improvement. After initiating the bulk graphics optimization I received a note in RED after optimizing just 6 images stating the license had been exceeded. So it appears if I want this work I need to pay for it? That's fine but should have been stated clearly up front - not after all the time, configuring & effort's put in.
Now I understand removing this plugin has significant issues requiring my hosting provider's involvement!
when i click in optimze now in one image nothing happens.
I installed it and it broke my media gallery.
Now it looks like this
Though the problem mentioned by all other below here is true i.e. exec() is ever required which never gets up and running! I came across another issue. When I tried deleting this plugin, it left some residues in my /wp-content/ewwww folder like: pngquant, optipng, jpegtran-custom, jpegtran, gifsicle. I don't know what extensions are for those files!! Even FileZilla couldn't determine its Filetype.
Furthermore, it automatically changed Owner/Group to somebody else and setting File Permissions to 755!! I've contacted my host provider to delete it for me!! Waiting for their reply..
This plugin didn't work for me and was frustrating to delete this residues it left after uninstall!! Very buggy!! :((
