I tried all the most obvious free candidates in order to have a straight forward recurring events calendar.
Some offered recurrence only if you paid for a plugin, or the pro version of the free app. Many of the calendars on offer seemed wonderful at doing commercial things that I do not require at all, such as ticketing, and charging for events, etc. Sometimes, they included recurrence in their commercial rather than their free offering.
Some had recurrence in the free version but, often that involved two streams of recurrence for the one event. For instance, you have to create two separate entries in order to depict a series of events that recurred on the first and third Tuesday of each month: one entry would enable the first Tuesday to recur and the other entry would enable the third Tuesday to recur.
I wanted something that would enable me to select, e.g., second and fourth Wednesday of some months in a single entry to retain the integrity of the series. I know that I could use one category for the two streams of the series but it seemed inefficient.
I had all but despaired of finding a suitable and free WordPress Calendar, even to the extent of trying a Joomla calendar, which went quite a long way to fulfilling what I wanted, and would have done fine if necessary. However, I wanted a WordPress calendar if possible, so I persisted in looking for one.
Imagine my surprise at finding this gem, Every Calendar +1. It deals with permutations and combinations of dates that are mind-boggling in their complexity. The main drawback to the app is the lack of documentation that accompanies it.
It is not always lack of information but lack of explanation as to what some of the information means. For instance, though I am highly commending and very excited about the Every Calendar +1 plugin, I am at a loss as to what is meant by "Every 4th Wednesday (2nd in group)". Having put the corresponding and dazzlingly simple forumula
* * 4 2/4 into my calendar, I could work out that the event repeated every fourth Wednesday, but not what "2nd in group" meant. Howevever, I can now write every first and third Tuesday of a month as
* * 3/1,3 *, which I find very satisfying.
I think that the Every Calendar +1 deserves a great following, as, once you get the hang of it, it has enormous simplicity and power. Many thanks for top rate work from Andrew Bevitt.
A nice calendar plugin !!
This is the best looking free calendar out there! I ran into an issue where the calendar posts weren't loading but i just refreshed my permalinks and it works fine.
settings -> permalinks -> save changes
How can I make the plugin translated to Portuguese?
I'm using version 3.8.2 of wordpress and so far all is well, congratulations for this wonderful work.
