good if you go premium version,
By ,

I'm sorry but I have to give only 3 stars review. The plugin looks very solid and impressive with all the paid addons, but my experience is that none of the free ones are working. They all have some features that don't work. Here's a list:
- premium package: cart experience doesn't look like advertised, checkout don't work, locking one file makes all other files locked, it has poor settings for what is supposed to do
- template page: doesn't create any template but relies on your theme's, so it's useless
- button image: there are many "label buttons" but no chance to create that label

I'm sure the premium version rocks, but I'm not willing to go for it if the free one doesn't work. Keep up the spirit anyway.

Presentation issues
By , for WP 4.4.2

This plugin is nice enough but where if fails is in the presentation of the file for download. Why is the featured image shown twice? In general the way files are presented for download seems very sloppy. Yes this is aesthetics and and to each their own but I will buy the pro version.

Quite good plugin but too many problems (sometimes)
By , for WP 4.4.2

We've been using this plugin at many sites. But at some of them, we found strange problems. When asking for support, authors would ask us for an admin account to enter site. That seems strange support to me. I'll be trying back Download Monitor instead.

good but support materials nearly impossible to find
By ,

UPDATE:
I think they finally got their sh#t together. Before it seemed like they had three different websites - one for the product, one for the demo and one for support. I got so lost. I never knew how to get back to the same place.

BUT, they must have hired a designer who knows something about being user friendly. Because I actually went to their new site and found the same page... three times in a row.... I know... amazing (sarcasm).

So, I am cautiously updating my rating from one start (which would have been zero if possible) to three.

The resources are still not the best, but at least I can find them now.

END UPDATE:
This is one of the most complicated plugins I have ever used. And the documentation is written in programmer speak.

I have struggled for this plugin for hours and hours and hours and hours. It just produces illogical results. I would not recommend this to anyone. It is way more complicated than it has to be.

It is just impossible to use. I must be an idiot. For get my advanced degree and 10+ years of experience. This plugin makes me feel stupid.

If you want major frustration and have hours and hours and hours to spend... just to get a stupid download to work. Then by all means, but this plugin. Why not. I did.

I would stay away from this plugin if you are looking for something that is user friendly. This one is not. Not at all.

does what it should but pro too expensive
By , for WP 4.2.3

The plugin does what it should and works great.

In the free version there is not much to configure or customize.
I would go for the pro version but 45$ is really too expensive. For this money you get a full professional theme. I think about 10-15$ would be ok but thats really too much.

I have an error

Upgrade Doesn't worked for me
By , for WP 4.0.1

Upgrade didn't worked for me. It took away all the files that was previously available for download, as shortcode is changed.
I was happy with the previous version.
Is their way to get back to previous version.?

Overcomplicated, but it works
By , for WP 4.1

I think this plugin is trying to do too much. In fact the shortcode outputs a whole blurb with a thumbnail, date, file size, etc., which I see no way to suppress. All I needed for my project was a simple link to download the file. I had to hide all that other stuff with CSS, which is a cheapskate way to do it. This was the only plugin I could find that I could have send an email notice upon each download. Unfortunately, I had to add a custom function to my functions.php in order to do this. This is one thing I think the plugin could make easier, which would make it more valuable. Instead, it includes such storage space consuming things as download button icons to choose from (which I could care less about). At least I was able to do what I needed to.

I started with version 2.7.83 and have since upgraded to 2.7.84 with no problems discovered thus far.

Updates and support
By , for WP 4.1

I wasn't too happy with the plugin even before the infamous update to v2.7.6, mostly because it lacked some customization abilities. But yet it still offered the most among other free alternatives.
However, after the said "upgrade", none of the downloadables on any of the sites I administrated worked any more. There was no notice prior to the upgrade that it will completely break the functionality, and what's more, the developers did not provide an efficient way for migration from the old system to the new one, which left all shortcodes having to be manually changed from page to page, which is a tedious and time consuming labour, to say the least.
On top of all, the authors' rude replies on many objections at this forum left an even worse taste in mouth.
I do understand that this is a FREE plugin, and I appreciate anyone's work on creating free-of-charge products and solutions... but what is much more important than being free, what is actually essential, is simply being useful.

Download Manager in HOTLIST of vulnerability
By , for WP 4.1

Waste of Time and money as I tried to get it work, meanwhile this PlugIn is on the HOTLIST of vulnerability

Hands Off

Another issue with anyone in the world being able to execute a sensitive function from within wordpress, this one’s developer is actually what made me think to include it. He’s hilarious.

Pro Verison - Much too complicated coding system - there are much better systems with easy configuration - the documentation not very well. Provided language file does not work...
