We use this plugin on many client sites and it's a great one for quickly spinning up custom sidebars instead of modifying three different files to get a new one in. There's some strange decisions in here (front page is apparently an archive?), but it's a solid, useful plugin?
If you plan to use this plugin to show specific widgets for different cateogires/taxonomies, you'll the pro version to adjust the visibility on a per-term basis.
And there are a few issues with this.
1) Terms do not inherit. If you choose a top-level term to show the widget to, it will not be shown on child terms. There is no option that I can find to do this, aside from selecting all of the children manually. It's not a checkbox list though, so you have to type each one by hand... very annoying.
2) Terms do not show their parent in the selection box. Just their name. If you have hundreds of terms (like I do), then this is a massive problem.
If there was just a little bit more support for heirarchical taxonomies, I would give this plugin (and the pro version) 5/5 stars.
Good plugin but, for me it was impossible to view 2 news sidebars in the same page.
This plugin is really nice. But after updating to WP 3.5 it makes it impossible to edit any widgets at the widgetpage. this is a shame. the plugin has been downloaded almost 150.000 times and must be heavely used by a lot of people, but the developer seems to be to busy elsewhere to do anything about this issue. It would be nice with some kind of reaction from the developer. Is he working on a solution or has he given up on further development? Last update was may 2012, so it does need an update very soon to keep up with the new WP versions. I sincerly hope this plugin will be updated soon!!!!!
