I'd always found this plugin a little slow and unresponsive in the manager for creating the sidebars but a much bigger problem has led to this one star rating.
Since the latest update it has been hogging all the CPU resources on my server. This caused the site to stop loading pages most of the time, meaning I couldn't even log in and delete the plugin once I'd worked out that was the problem (or rather, once my hosting company told me this). I had to log in via FTP and just brute force delete the damned thing.
Clearly not everyone has this problem, but it can happen, there is nothing particularly unique about my site (structurally) nor in the way I was using the plugin. So use this plugin if you wish, but if you notice your site loading really sluggishly or failing to load at all due to server CPU and memory being eaten up by some mysterious force like in Star Wars, then this might be the culprit.
As mentioned by a previous review this plugin has a large impact on site speed and also caused time out issues in the backend. I don't recommend using this plugin.
the main function of visibility is not available on free version anymore
We have had this on a clients site, the site was suffering with slow load times and timing out, both front and back end.
Using the plugin, P3 - Plugin performance profiler we were able to identify that it was this plugin causing the issue. Our plugin loading time was averaging 5.800 seconds!
We only had 2 custom widget areas setup both containing a search widget and custom menu widget.
Upon removing the plugin our plugin load time is now 3.200 second and we are no longer having issues with site timeouts.
We would strongly recommend against anyone using this plugin.
Instead you could use Jetpack's visibility option to control what pages/posts you display your widgets on.
Uninstalled! Cuz its messed all of my widget, hidden the button "Visible" <-- this is illegal act?
I doubt about their installed count and good review.
The plugin comes with a lot of praise but not much information on how to use it, or warnings about incompatibility with other plugins. Result, I installed it, and just doing that wiped existing settings and stopped other plugins working. All previous customisations of the menu system, which was extensive, were lost.
This would not have mattered if Custom Sidebars worked, but for me it did not. I created sidebars in accordance with the scanty advice given, followed the instructions for setting each page or post to pick up the new side bar. It didn't work, I had blank sidebars, or the old default ones. Support? Well I can't afford $49 a month, especially for something that had already messed me about. Maybe it was me, or my set up, or some bug that made it fight with other plugins, but whatever it was it cost me a lot of wasted time and effort. No thanks. I have found a plugin from another developer which is working without problems.
I wanted to create sidebars and specify their layout position on the page. This plugin only replaces existing sidebars which were located at the bottom of the page. I could not specify the layout positions (right or left).
This might work OK for others. I am using a child theme of Snowblind,
This plugin works fine, but WPMU is obnoxious with their ads. They place ads all over the admin screens that have to me manually hidden through code. Their paid service will charge you by the month unless you explicitly cancel.
That said the plugin works fine, so I hope they pursue better business practices in the future.
Useless, doesn't work. Total waste of time.
This plugin does not work. It looks nice.
But does not work.
Did everything as told in the instruction video.
Did more to try to get it to work.
Tested it with different themes.
Even the themes :
All themes I run were the latest versions.
