Excellent Plugin

It's worth having this plugin, gives your sidebar total customization.

Not changing theme sidebar
By ,

Hi I think it would make sense to mention that the theme sidebars are not flexible and can be removed. It might be a good plugin if you want to customize your own sidebars but the impression given in the description is that you can change any sidebar whatever way you fancy - which you cant. I am working in Fashionista.

Custom, doesn't have to mean technically difficult.

So simple a Caveman could do it. Ugh!

Too Limited
By , for WP 4.0.1

I wanted to create sidebars and specify their layout position on the page. This plugin only replaces existing sidebars which were located at the bottom of the page. I could not specify the layout positions (right or left).

This might work OK for others. I am using a child theme of Snowblind,

User-Friendly & Powerful

Custom Sidebars will go on my "essential plugins" list from now on. I am pleased by how easy it was to figure out and by how many options are available in the free version. I was able to install it and put it to use within a couple of minutes on my obscure WP theme. Well done!

Plugin places ads in admin panel
By ,

This plugin works fine, but WPMU is obnoxious with their ads. They place ads all over the admin screens that have to me manually hidden through code. Their paid service will charge you by the month unless you explicitly cancel.

That said the plugin works fine, so I hope they pursue better business practices in the future.

Lacks heirarchical taxonomy support
By , for WP 3.9.2

If you plan to use this plugin to show specific widgets for different cateogires/taxonomies, you'll the pro version to adjust the visibility on a per-term basis.

And there are a few issues with this.

1) Terms do not inherit. If you choose a top-level term to show the widget to, it will not be shown on child terms. There is no option that I can find to do this, aside from selecting all of the children manually. It's not a checkbox list though, so you have to type each one by hand... very annoying.

2) Terms do not show their parent in the selection box. Just their name. If you have hundreds of terms (like I do), then this is a massive problem.

If there was just a little bit more support for heirarchical taxonomies, I would give this plugin (and the pro version) 5/5 stars.

Useless, doesn't work

Useless, doesn't work. Total waste of time.

Amazing

No need to hire a dev for creating a theme sidebar
well done

Love it, but not working due to update
By , for WP 3.9.2

Hi,

I love your plugin - it does everything perfectly - which is why when I updated it to the new version today I was upset that it made my blog sidebar my default sidebar on all of my pages. I brought my website back to yesterday's backup, and I am not able to update your plugin until this is fixed. I noticed that you mentioned that this was a fix for the last update, yet the other update worked perfectly for me.

So I just wanted to say Thank you for the great Plugin - and I hope you are able to fix it for me so I can update it again.

Judie :)
