Provides compatible themes with sermon, event, person and location post types, taxonomies and fields. Requires a compatible theme for showing content.
I've been using this plugin the last 11 months while building my church theme shop. I've tried a lot of plugins since I started building WordPress websites during version 2.7 and believe me when I say this is as good as they come. It's easy to integrate, easy to customize and very well-written. Just browsing the source has taught me a lot.
Best of all, it really helps churches avoid the theme lock-in effect. I know that if I build themes that use this plugin, they can switch to a theme from churchthemes.com, ChurchThemes, ThemeBright (my own shop), or most any church theme on ThemeForest and their content will port over seamlessly.
Well done Steven. We need more plugins like this.
Before this plug-in came around I used to hardcode all this functionality into my themes. Now I skip all that just activate the church content plug-in and I'm good to go with a whole bunch of functionality. The plugin works really well and the developer is super responsive. Top marks
It shouldn't be in the wordpress repository because it doesn't offer any feature at all for free. Instead it forces people to buy their themes.
You should develop the plugin so that is compatible with all common wordpress themes and then offer some functionality as basic and more as premium.
So good to see a plugin that focuses on handling data and leaving the display to the theme. Improves data portability for church related content and prevents theme lock-in. I wish more plugins and themes took such a great approach!
The Church Theme Content Plugin is very useful for churches. It includes a people directory, sermons, events, etc. These are core functions for churches. We use it at our church http://tbcministries.com
It has to be used with specific themes so make sure you have one of those first.
This plugin is wonderful. It's primary purpose it to standardize the content and custom post types for content that is typical of churches and ministries to avoid lock-in, which happens when every developer tries to do things their own way. The team at ChurchThemes.com took the theme market a big step forward with the creation of this plugin and correlating framework. Thanks!
We used this with the Exodus theme from churchthemes.com, and found the plugin easy to use. It'd be nice if event recurrence was more flexible; we wanted to set recurrence to day of week or month. For example, an event the first Sunday of each month. Support told us that "There is currently no support in CTC for anything but weekly, monthly and annual recurrence." Still, this is a very useful plugin overall.
This plugin is awesome and like a role model! Its concept is as simple as it is genius: put all functionality stuff in a "little" plugin, but let all styling (CSS and such) come from any theme that supports this plugin. (And there's a growing number of themes which do just that.)
So everything goes hand in hand. That's the way it should be. The day you change, remove or delete your current theme, NO functionality or even content will be lost. The only thing that might happen a bit that you might find some unstyled content here and there. However, this could be changed with another (supporting) theme (or some CSS tweaks). And be sure, the day you switch your theme will come sooner than later. Trust me on this!
Most important: your data & content will be safe with this plugin, as are the features, just because all is hold by the plugin.
The offered content types via this plugin -- sermons, events, locations and persons -- are all well thought out and enhanced with some useful features. Yes, not all features, but some that are useful to the majority of the primary use case: websites for churches.
All of the above I did write based on my experiences over the years. Steven, the plugin author (and author of great church themes), really cares for the code, the functionality and the support. He is a kind of a developer I can only recommend, as he also cares for the topic of translations (unlike a lot of other developers, sadly).
Go, use this plugin! It is NOT ONLY useful for church websites, but for churches particularly!
Well done, thank you again!

This, quite simply, is best in field for WordPress based church websites. The code base is rock solid, and the fact that churchthemes has released this free to the public shows how supportive they are of the church community.
The developers intend this to become the standard for church websites upon which all church-related themes are built, preventing theme lock-in across the board. I fully support their aim and hope that all church theme builders embrace Church Theme Content.
Great work churchthemes and all the best.
Awesome job and to release it free with documentation and answering questions over Twitter as well. Phenomenal, If you are building a website for a church or if you are part of a church and want a great way to put your content online for your users to consume from your website at their convenience, this is a great way to do it with minimal work on your end. Great job guys and thank you for making it available.
