Build local directories, business provider listings, Yellow-Pages directories, Yelp-like review sections and much more!
Great plugin! Top quality support provided also. Highly recommended. I have implemented this for avivum.com and it has worked a treat. Will continue to use for a very long time.
At first I thought there was no field for a youtube video, but they explained that WordPress will show a video if you merely put the page URL to your video on its own line in the description field.
So all is good! Would like to see a Pinterest pin button as well and also the sharing icons for Facebook, etc. so not just the link to the listing owner's own Facebook page but a share button that let's visitors share the listing on Facebook. Twitter, Email, Pinterest etc. as you see this on tablets and smartphones, as well as websites.
Maybe there is something like that already, or a plugin? If so, please let me know!
Thank you so much!!!
I needed a framework for a "Find-a-Rep" section on my company's website and although this is not the intended purpose of it, this plugin adapted nicely to the task. The Google map tie in was well worth the cost.
I had one question for the author which was immediately answered.
I can give the plugin my unqualified recommendation.
Have been using the directory for about a year now. Had a minor problem, and they responded quickly and fixed the problem. Great plugin and service!
make sure you view the entire thread - great support from the plugin author, committed to customer service. That's huge in my book!
I reviewed the code structure of this plugin. The code is not commented and lacks any docblocks that I could find in the 15+ files I reviewed. The code is also riddled with globals, which wouldn't be a huge problem if the code was commented properly, which would allow any modern IDE to follow the inheritance/types of the code.
There are also bugs that haven't been tested or caught, such as using undefined variables. For example, in (in plugin 3.6) the file /views/views.php line 103 has an undefined variable $msg that's being passed by reference, it should be initialized on line 102 as $msg = ''. Again, this would be helped by proper comments.
It also lacks the ability to use the WordPress API to add actions or filter content.
In the templates directory, there are 7 do_action calls: http://cl.circletr.ee/image/3u1y3L3E0L0o
Compare that to WooCommerce's 158: http://cl.circletr.ee/image/370X2I2J340d
--For example, it's very useful in WooCommerce to be able to add an action to a checkout page, and not have to copy/override an entire template. Why? Because when WooCommerce releases the next major release, it's very easy for them to keep a do_action() call in a template, and then restructure the entire page's DOM, without fear of breaking interoperability.
I used this plugin on my directory of [ link redacted, please do not post links in the reviews section ]. The only thing I wish I had more control is the url structure, but for a free plugin this is the best one out there.
I've been using BDP to set up an online DJ directory. Dave and the team have been extremely helpful when answering technical questions about the plugin. The additional modules are really useful too; it really is a comprehensive solution to put together an online directory. If I could give it 6 out of 5 I would!!
Even though a directory is a fairly complex system, WP Business Directory is easy to manage and customize.
I did encounter one issue and reported it to the plugin admin: it was solved quite rapidly.
Great work, keep it up!
The developers were very helpful in helping us with a bug we were experiencing. I would highly recommend this plugin, as it has a rich feature set and great support.
