Confusing Backend
By , for WP 4.5.2

This plugin has many functions / options, but a terrible and confusing user interface. Removed from my installation.

Interface way too complex
By , for WP 4.5.2

Tried it on a couple of sites - very complex to setup and needed too much of my time to maintain. Then uninstalling was a nightmare and left my themes broken. Got reasonable support but needed huge amounts of my time. There are many other free plugins that do pretty much the same with a one or two click setup

2.5 stars if it was an option
By , for WP 4.3.1

If I could give a 2.5 star option I would. Let me preface by saying that I am not a webmaster, educated in web development at all and have only a beginner's level understanding in website troubleshooting. I paid someone more experienced to set up my site and I run it as a turn key operation. Bulletproof has worked for us fine for the most part, but to be honest, I'm terrified anytime there is an update involved. Usually the updates go okay, but the 2 or 3 times they haven't I've usually had to jump through many stressful hoops to get it back on track or had to pay to hire someone to else fix it. This last time, after we updated to the newest version, it caused the most damage so far and I had an inbox full of complaints from my customers unable to access any content, subscribe to the site, and had to issue many refunds. I also couldn't update my site properly. I had to pay my host do a rollback to before I updated BPS and everything worked perfectly again. Whether BPS was the problem or not, I am not qualified to follow the steps provided by the staff (who answer back within 24 hours and are as helpful as they can be). If you are savvy in web development and speak the language, then by all means give BPS a go. You'll probably do great. If you are like myself and have little knowledge in how to fix these things, I would reconsider your options.

It blows away htaccess
By , for WP 4.3.1

lost my permalinks and 301 redirects I had in the file - not one, but twice!

once on install
twice on setup

now my site is behaving oddly - I can't save any settings.

Butt ugly, extremely difficult to comprehend and use
By ,

The interface makes it difficult to learn and use. A plugin should make things easier, not force me to become an expert in using it.

I'm especially concerned with the amount of effort that will be required to reverse any changes made by this plugin if they happen to foul up my site.

Please fix the interface. It does not instill confidence.

Don't like it
By , for WP 4.0.1

Installed it and because I used a rename plugin for maintanance mode I wasn't able to login anymore. Took time to adjust this. Theming is bad and overall the settings are not intuitive. Overall, there is a better solution out there which is free and very intuitive.

Not as easy & user-friendly as it claims to be
By , for WP 4.0

I really wanted to like this. The idea, the price and level of protection are great...in theory.

The plugin says that it features one click installation but fails to mention that you'll need to have more knowledge than just click and go for the rest of the software. It is a far cry from intuitive and all the additional info/instructions aren't written very clearly (not for the average lay person).

Several of my plugins were blocked by bulletproof, like broken link checker,(which is fine...I understand that some perfectly harmless plugins can look like potential threats) but the "easy" instructions for resolving the issues weren't so easy to someone who doesn't have advanced knowledge of coding and isn't confident poking around in essential files. You can't even find a simple answer on how to uninstall it...the "easy" (and only) answer I found was to delete the file it created but was provided with no way to actually find said file.

This plugin is not as easy to use as the creators would have you believe. For an intermediate novice, it's intimidating and frustrating to use, even with the documentation. With the help of my host (who was kind enough to help me - the customer service agent is familiar with bulletproof) I was finally able to uninstall.

I hope a more truly user-friendly and intuitive version of this plugin will be rolled out so that those of us with less tech knowledge can still keep our sites safe from hackers. Simplify, simplify, simplify. If you guys can make it a genuinely user-friendly experience I'll be back in a heartbeat.
