We've had 3 WordPress sites hacked in the last 6 months, two of those repeatedly (stemming from the Slider Revolution vulnerability).
Without going into too much detail, we thought everything had been patched up -- we did internal server malware scans, external site malware scans, installed Wordfence free version (which did help in many ways), and manually inspected the accounts for suspicious and hidden files.
Then suddenly in the last 2 weeks (after all of these other things) we started getting reports that the server was "attacking/abusing" other networks/servers. Again tried everything -- more scans, etc. The VPS hosting company said these things are very difficult to track down after the fact, but suggested installing Bulletproof Security.
So we did this on the most suspect website as a trial. And guess what? The attacks stopped. It's been 48 hours with none, and we'd have multiple reports every day for two weeks before this.
We're now big fans -- for us, the combination of Wordfence and Bulletproof Security is a winning one. They both do slightly different things (with the exception of the login protection, and we're relying on Bulletproof for this), and do them really well. Maybe Wordfence isn't needed with Bulletproof -- not sure on that -- but better safe than sorry. :-)
2 thumbs way up -- and definitely looking at going pro.
Great and professional.
The interface makes it difficult to learn and use. A plugin should make things easier, not force me to become an expert in using it.
I'm especially concerned with the amount of effort that will be required to reverse any changes made by this plugin if they happen to foul up my site.
Please fix the interface. It does not instill confidence.
Using the pro version of this plugin, it has been awesome so far. One time i had a problem the support was beyond awesome, and i mean to a level you very rarely see these days. I especially appreciate that the plugin can be used on multiple sites and doesn't require renewal of license each year. Not a single conflict with other plugins as of now. Has blocked many attacks, it's a relief to scan through the logs and see how well it works.
Setup is one click in the pro version, but you will want to read the extensive help that is available alongside every function of the plugin, to get a better idea of what's really going on and to make use of the advanced functions. It can be a bit overwhelming at times but in the end you learn much, and i like the idea that the customer is not taken as a sheep that follows the path without questions.
Suggestion to the developer: modernize the graphics of the plugin to make it a bit nicer on the eyes, and do the same for your site. especially lose the fugly flash movie on the features page of the website, it makes you look behind times and will create an impression that the plugin may not be kept up to date if your website isn't (for others, this is completely not true, this thing gets updated every few days).
Installed it and because I used a rename plugin for maintanance mode I wasn't able to login anymore. Took time to adjust this. Theming is bad and overall the settings are not intuitive. Overall, there is a better solution out there which is free and very intuitive.
Not only the plugin is great but the support is greater than the plugin. Thanks a lot
I have used this plugin for many of my sites and it works great. It can be a bit of work to get it setup but it's worth it. It has stopped many brute force attacks and helps me sleep at night.
I really wanted to like this. The idea, the price and level of protection are great...in theory.
The plugin says that it features one click installation but fails to mention that you'll need to have more knowledge than just click and go for the rest of the software. It is a far cry from intuitive and all the additional info/instructions aren't written very clearly (not for the average lay person).
Several of my plugins were blocked by bulletproof, like broken link checker,(which is fine...I understand that some perfectly harmless plugins can look like potential threats) but the "easy" instructions for resolving the issues weren't so easy to someone who doesn't have advanced knowledge of coding and isn't confident poking around in essential files. You can't even find a simple answer on how to uninstall it...the "easy" (and only) answer I found was to delete the file it created but was provided with no way to actually find said file.
This plugin is not as easy to use as the creators would have you believe. For an intermediate novice, it's intimidating and frustrating to use, even with the documentation. With the help of my host (who was kind enough to help me - the customer service agent is familiar with bulletproof) I was finally able to uninstall.
I hope a more truly user-friendly and intuitive version of this plugin will be rolled out so that those of us with less tech knowledge can still keep our sites safe from hackers. Simplify, simplify, simplify. If you guys can make it a genuinely user-friendly experience I'll be back in a heartbeat.
Awesome support from plugin developer:)
This plugin is great. Creates secure .htaccess file out of the box, but you can also add your custom code if you want. Limited login attempts also help to keep my sites secure.
