WordPress Website Security Protection: Firewall Security, Login Security, Database Security... Effective, Reliable, Easy to use...
Having used BPS for more than 5 years without any problems and having tried other security plugins over the years, I have found nothing better than BPS free in the plugins. The free version interface is straight forward and easy to learn. Ed Alexander, the developer, knows his stuff around htaccess files. He keeps BPS up to date and his support is top notch too. IMO you won't go wrong with bullet proof security. It is the first plugin I install on a new site.
I am using this for years. Reliable, good support. Essential for WordPress security.
This plugin is quite sophisticated, so stay with it. Free version is easy pie. Pro is Excellent, so check that any new plugins play well with Bulletproof Security, if it doesn't consider not using that new plugin at all. If you must have it, go to BPS Support and GET HELP almost instantly. Have the new plugin author explain why it doesn't work with BPS as well...
A++ and it just keeps getting better and better and better.
Unlike some other security mods I've used, BPS does not bloat my database with hundreds of megabytes of log information. It also recently helped resolve an xmlrpc attack that was causing server instability. Overall it seems relatively easy to install and fairly easy to setup. Thanks!
We've had 3 WordPress sites hacked in the last 6 months, two of those repeatedly (stemming from the Slider Revolution vulnerability).
Without going into too much detail, we thought everything had been patched up -- we did internal server malware scans, external site malware scans, installed Wordfence free version (which did help in many ways), and manually inspected the accounts for suspicious and hidden files.
Then suddenly in the last 2 weeks (after all of these other things) we started getting reports that the server was "attacking/abusing" other networks/servers. Again tried everything -- more scans, etc. The VPS hosting company said these things are very difficult to track down after the fact, but suggested installing Bulletproof Security.
So we did this on the most suspect website as a trial. And guess what? The attacks stopped. It's been 48 hours with none, and we'd have multiple reports every day for two weeks before this.
We're now big fans -- for us, the combination of Wordfence and Bulletproof Security is a winning one. They both do slightly different things (with the exception of the login protection, and we're relying on Bulletproof for this), and do them really well. Maybe Wordfence isn't needed with Bulletproof -- not sure on that -- but better safe than sorry. :-)
2 thumbs way up -- and definitely looking at going pro.
Great and professional.
The interface makes it difficult to learn and use. A plugin should make things easier, not force me to become an expert in using it.
I'm especially concerned with the amount of effort that will be required to reverse any changes made by this plugin if they happen to foul up my site.
Please fix the interface. It does not instill confidence.
Using the pro version of this plugin, it has been awesome so far. One time i had a problem the support was beyond awesome, and i mean to a level you very rarely see these days. I especially appreciate that the plugin can be used on multiple sites and doesn't require renewal of license each year. Not a single conflict with other plugins as of now. Has blocked many attacks, it's a relief to scan through the logs and see how well it works.
Setup is one click in the pro version, but you will want to read the extensive help that is available alongside every function of the plugin, to get a better idea of what's really going on and to make use of the advanced functions. It can be a bit overwhelming at times but in the end you learn much, and i like the idea that the customer is not taken as a sheep that follows the path without questions.
Suggestion to the developer: modernize the graphics of the plugin to make it a bit nicer on the eyes, and do the same for your site. especially lose the fugly flash movie on the features page of the website, it makes you look behind times and will create an impression that the plugin may not be kept up to date if your website isn't (for others, this is completely not true, this thing gets updated every few days).
Installed it and because I used a rename plugin for maintanance mode I wasn't able to login anymore. Took time to adjust this. Theming is bad and overall the settings are not intuitive. Overall, there is a better solution out there which is free and very intuitive.
