Not compatible
By , for WP 4.3.3

Sometimes working, sometimes not :(

WP 4.3.1, BP 2.4.0, report 404 on every link
By , for WP 4.3.1

After updated Buddypress to 2.4.0, every page, like Profile, activity, groups, notifications and similar pages totally don't work with a 404 error.

we use wp 4.3.1 + bp 2.4.0

Support site really needs to be responsive.

Changing Not Much
By , for WP 4.4.2

This may be free but they are not doing anything with competition plugins out there that offer more and charge for the same features as this. What I mean is this looks like still from the early 1990's kind of website look. While the plugins for communities now and charge are looking hell of a lot nicer.

Talking to them in the support is worthless. They say they want to make it better but the only thing they work on with this plugin is little bugs in each release. Nothing about UI is going to be changed and last thing that was added was cover photos, which is not really much of a change.

So many charging community plugins that charge have the grid member directories but this plugin is never going to get that ever. It is fugly. Sorry, I am so rude but I tried to get them to make this UI look better but they don't care.

So I am not using any more community plugins and just use bbPress only on my website.

Don't work anymore
By , for WP 4.1.1

The new version (2.2.2) is not compatible with the theme I use (Enigma)

Great but also dissapointing
By , for WP 4.0

I like what it allows you to do on your website. It takes getting used to where everything is but once you do, it is a good add to your site.

What really dissapointed me is the profile page. Here is why:

When you activate Buddypress, you are asked to create new pages for things like logging in and signing up - which is perfect. You can go in and customize these pages as you wish.

Buddypress does not let you create and customize a user profile page (the most important page). Instead, the plugin makes the profile pop up when prompted. So far that is also ok.

What SUCKS, and makes you wonder why it was made this way, is the fact that the profile page Buddypress creates for you has WHITE FONTS (which you cannot modify through the plugin).

They decided to give the most important page of a website WHITE FONTS knowing fully well many, if not most websites have a WHITE BACKGROUND.

I was able to solve this issue but only by downloading another pluggin to customize a child theme.

I have not bothered to check, but I would be willing to bet there is a paying version of Buddypress which allows you to change these font colors.

Works...missing functionality
By , for WP 3.8.2

First off, I had buddypress set up pretty well. All I wanted to do was get rid of the sidebars on certain pages that are not actually "pages" within the wordpress system. These would be like "member profile" pages and a few others. After spending hours reading through their forums that DID NOT HELP, I ended up crashing my site with a fatal error after following someones instructions. Why such a simple functionality wouldn't be built into it in the first place is beyond me.... Now I've wasted countless hours and my site just displays the following on the backend:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function bp_get_groups_slug() in /home/codyecp/public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-activity/bp-activity-loader.php on line 207

Cant do anything anymore with the admin panel...F*%$ buddypress!

AHHHHHHH I just spent a whole day styling this damn plugin and now my site crashes from nothing????? WTF. I'd rate it ZERO stars if I could....

Forced, badly designed features ruin the overall functionality.
By , for WP 3.8.2

On the official BuddyPress website, you are promised the option to choose which of its features you wish to use with the bold statement "BuddyPress is not 'all or nothing' ".

However, this is not entirely true.
Even with features such as "Extended Profiles" and "Account Settings" disabled, BuddyPress still drastically modifies the default bbPress user profiles to include lists items and buttons specific to other BuddyPress features.

Additionally, installing BuddyPress will likely leave your website scattered with minor bugs, such as broken title attributes and 504 errors for profile images, and due to it's incompatibility with even slightly modified bbPress themes, you're naturally lefty questioning how applicable the plugin is for anything beyond a hobby website with more serious customization.

If, however, you are not interested in compatibility with prior customization and are willing to accept all the features provided with BuddyPress, out of the box, in their full extent, you will likely overcome the minor issues relatively fast.
