 * WordPress has been backporting security patches for quite some time. 4.9 gets
   the same relevant security patches that the new branches get, so does 3.7. I’m
   not sure how you come to the conclusion that the new versions are more secure
   simply because they are newer. A few of the more recent issues only affect the
   5.x branches because of their new features.

 * Is this going to be corrected in a later release?

 * Except that doesn’t look like RFI at all, it looks like a referer that had an
   empty query string set.

 * PHP version is 5.4.38 so no register_globals. Not only is it happening every
   day, it happens every time.
 * There are no warnings in the Overview page.
 * More info …
 * Fairly large multisite install, over 700 sites. Running XCache for opcode cache
   and memcached for object caching.
 * I’m going copy the site to a test area and I’ll update you if I find anything.
