 * Thanks, YOP Team. I had the same problem. It would be really great (and low maintenance
   for us) if there was an option to automatically switch to to After Poll End once
   the poll is closed.

 * Uh, wait. Spoke too soon. I think it doesn’t work properly if you have categories
   and native tags. Left a few comments on the creator’s post – hopefully he’ll 
   let me know.

 * Level2Categories 2 does the job for 2.3+. You can specify a minimum user level
   for the users to be able to post into a category

 * The interface is quite tiresome if you have 50+ categories like me, but it works.
   I have asked the developer if he/she will either set up a default minimum level
   or improve the interface.

 * BTW, I think you might be looking for something more like [wp_list_categories](http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/wp_list_categories).
   Try searching for plugins that extend that if you need to customise it further.

 * Sorry this didn’t work for your purpose.
 * This plugin has to be called within The Loop. It’s for getting categories for
   a single post, not on a larger category page. I’m working on updating the documentation
   to make this clearer.
 * And it does work in 2.3.3, just not in the sidebar.

 * Nope, neither the role manager linked above, nor the follow-up at [http://www.im-web-gefunden.de/wordpress-plugins/role-manager/](http://www.im-web-gefunden.de/wordpress-plugins/role-manager/)
   will do this.
 * Acess by Category apparently will do so for versions up to 2.0 (maybe 2.1). No
   joy for anything newer.

 * Thanks, Otto42. This is exactly the behaviour that I need. Hope it makes it into
   2.3 so I don’t need to hack the core every time 😐
