I know, though, that the live server where the site will be, still uses php version 5.* . * If this is a problem with php v. 7.*, and can’t be made compatible with both this version and the old versions of php, that’s okay too. I will just put up with the notice on my local machine. Could it possibly be due to some incompatibility with the newest version of WordPress? I can’t give you the exact wording, because I was running out of time so I gave up and removed the plugin. I have since found another solution. Unfortunately I am also seeing a lot of error messagees (notices) coming from wp-admin\includes\plugin.php on line 1550 (undefined offset). And I do not want the user to see the dashboard. I just want something to allow the user to login in to a private members area. The site is a custom-coded theme that I developed and does not use any plugins to build pages or page parts. But thank you for pointing out the /wp-includes/version.php file. I wasn’t aware of it, and when I checked, sure enough I really didn’t have the correct version. The uploading of files must have gotten messed up. Everything worked this time around though.
