In reply to: archives do not function/existCouple things you can do to mitigate the number of simultaneous difficulties:
1. Set all folder permissions to 755, and all files to 644. These are the default settings; don’t worry about trying to make theme files writeable until the rest of the dreck is siphoned off.
2. I’m pretty sure laughingsquid will have mod_rewrite enabled, but just to set your mind at ease (and prevent any more questions re same) contact their techies and ask.
3. While you’re chatting up the techies, ask them to run a repair on your database, just in case there’s something hinky in there (there’s probably not, but can’t hurt in any case).
Once those things are handled, post back, and we’ll go into some detail on how things actually work, and what you can expect to find.

In reply to: Verticle menu in WordPress adminYou’d just need to hack the wp-admin.css file to change the list declarations maybe.

In reply to: differing colour of theme on different pcsYup. I have three screens sitting here: laptop LCD; and two different-brand monitors connected to my desktop. Colors look MARKEDLY different on each. However, I do have to say that no apparent color-change occurred when I upgraded my display adapter on the desktop from a crap ATI X300 to an NVIDIA 7950GT.

In reply to: Broken LayoutGenerally, this sort of thing occurs because you have something either in the content area or the sidebar which is wider than it’s container.

Forum: Everything else WordPress
In reply to: delete profile name or topic posts?Several problems, and a maybe solution:
Even if the username and the associated topics herein are deleted, google still has the info, and it will still sit there until whatever point google realizes it’s dead links or ages out naturally (and I don’t honestly know how long that is). And it would be up to a mod whether they wanted to delete your entire history herein – for one thing, that might cause problems with otherwise perfectly viable topics.
But there is a possibility that you can get google to remove the links – I’m not sure where it’s located, but you could just email google and inquire. They’ve been pretty good about getting back to me when I’ve asked some of my normally oddball stuff….
Keep in mind that the other search engines no doubt also have at least some of the info – and I don’t know if they have “mitigation” practices in place.
You might waste an awful lot of time trying to fix the problem. Might be better just to eat it and chalk it up to experience, keeping in mind a better system for next time.
Nope. Only time it does that (for me, YMMV!) is if the setup is as I detailed. I’ve other installs in root where it’s never been a problem.
Only time I’ve had this happen was when I had wp installed in root with another instance in a subfolder, both using the same database (I do this occasionally for clients while testing). It quit as soon as I deleted the subfolder instance of wp at site launch.
[And the only version this has EVER occurred with is 2.0.5+.]

In reply to: RSS feeds not showing latest postsLessee…. maybe just for kicks n grins, run a repair on the database entire. And is there some way to clear that wp-cache plugin? Though if you were disabling it, one would think that would have accomplished the same thing….
Boy, I don’t know….
