In reply to: Exporting posts & comments for book for dying friendI think if this were me (and how many posts/comments are we talking about here?) I’d see if I could export to xml file and copy n paste the text stuff from there. Or maybe try one of the export options available from phpmyadmin…. there’s some things there I’ve never tried, but you might find just the thing.

Biggest problem with local setup/test/play is that it’s not always the same once you load it up online. For a lot of reasons.

In reply to: WP2.1 really sucksheather16: assuming you have a database dump (backup) from your 2.0+ wordpress install, you’d delete all of the wordpress 2.1 files (EXCEPT your wp-config.php file and any special themes you use), and upload the (probably) 2.0.7 files; then drop the tables from the database (don’t drop the database itself, just the tables) using phpmyadmin; then import the 2.0+ database dump and once that’s done, visit the wp-admin area and if you get an upgrade link, click on it.
I haven’t tried this, since I haven’t installed 2.1 – but this should work, it’s just a fairly normal process.

In reply to: WP2.1 really sucksIf you have a dump of your database before the upgrade you can retrograde to 2.0.7 without much trouble.

In reply to: Headache I need pain killerHiya JuanLuna. This would be a really good time to contact your host provider tech support folks. Explain exactly what you’re trying to do and ask them exactly how to create a database and a user; and how to “add/attach” the user to the database.
ekusteve: really, a theme (like the “default”) built on images is a very very poor place to start. WordPress is a wonderful program, one of very few which actually exemplifies solid css/xhtml design – IF you don’t get sucked into the graphic-based silliness that’s the “default” theme.
There are SO many better themes/places to start….
