I guess it’s an Ajax display issue. The first time WP eventually came out of maintenance mode, the second time it didn’t. This solution helped — thanks. Deactivating it solved the problem. When I reactivated my theme after trying out the default theme, GB suddenly works fine. It looks like something’s up with the theme I’m using. When I activate the default theme, I get the all the messaging displayed correctly. When I use my theme, the messaging doesn’t even appear in the HTML. Strangely, when I “sandboxed” my theme using XAMPP on my computer, it works fine. When I’m ready to point the nameservers to the new host, I’ll switch ’em to the actual domain name.
