It’s all fine now. [https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/amr-ical-events-list](https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/amr-ical-events-list) It says “not updated for 11 months” but the support forum is active, including posts from the developer. Only one event importing after removing and reinstalling the plugin. Disappointing but I’ve wasted too much time on this.
