With a lot of digging around my website, I’ve finally managed to make this work. Turns out that the guys who had built my website initially, weren’t linking to an author page as specified by WordPress but instead built a custom page called authors.php and that was situated in the home directory. Annoying. * So when I switched to permalinks it was looking for an author.php in the themes folder. I created an author.php page correctly and placed it in the themes folder and voila! Woooo! The problem was that I had many absolute references to pages (e.g. [https://www.example.com](https://www.example.com)). I’ve been searching hard to resolve this one. And… finally… I’ve sorted it. So thanks to Otto42 and craigvansant! * I also found that in the Visual Editor I had to select “Paragraph” from the Format drop-down menu.
