It’s half the equation for logging into an account. I’d rather they not know either one of those two critical pieces of information.
That was it… I’ve been looking on how to prevent that from showing up, and I can’t find any option in the WP settings. And the username can’t even be changed or hidden!
Thank you, Dave, for identifying where/how my username could be found.
So much for secure blogging, I guess.
That option was/is ticked, and there’s nothing about this domain (email, etc.) connected to my username.
Update: Namecheap fixed the issue and Wordfence is installed and working. They didn’t indicate what they had fixed, so no help on the cause unfortunately.
Thanks again for your help, wfasa and wfsupport.
I’ll reach out to Namecheap and see if they’ve placed any restrictions.
Hi Tim,
Yes, that is the process I’m taking, and I would add:
4. A Wordfence folder is created with subfolders but without any files.
5. I delete that folder with all subfolders, and begin the process again.I don’t have multiple installations of WordPress, and the Wordfence folder installs in the same directory “wp-content/plugins” from where its previous install was deleted.
This is a new site through Namecheap’s EasyWP. Very little has been done to it since I created it. Again, this all began with the Wordfence update several weeks ago, which indicated that it had failed and then disappeared from the list of plugins.
Thank you for the help!
I’ve done all of that multiple times. Deleted the wp-content/plugins directory (et al.) over and over again using ftp, and attempted a reinstall with the same error message each time. I’ve done this more than half a dozen times and the results don’t change. Each time I attempt to re-install, a new Wordfence directory is installed, and the dance begins again.
I did use Wordfence Assistance around my third or fourth reinstall but the same behavior persisted. I’ve also cleared the cache habitually.
And just as a note of clarification, all of this is outside of my control as well. So what would you suggest for an end-user who would like to implement your product on my website and perhaps even upgrade to premium?
