In reply to: WP 3.9 Image SizeI second this.
I have not been able to find anyone talking about this yet, but it seems that WP 3.9 displays the full size of the image irrespective of what the HTML outputs.
DESIRED BEHAVIOR: I upload an image that’s 300X400. I want to display a version of the image that’s 150×200, but when the visitor selects the lightbox, the full image (300×400) displays.
WHAT’S HAPPENING: The image displays as 300×400 even if I tell the image editor to show a 150x200px version of the image.
What’s happening here? Any fix for this? I’m going back to 3.8.3 until this is resolved. This is a MAJOR issue!

In reply to: CDN – Worth it?It could definitely be the number of images, if they’re all being loaded onto the page at once (i.e. a page of say, 100 images), especially if they are large file sizes. Fetching images is a huge resource hog for the browser for any website. But, slow site speed could be a caching issue, plugin conflict, etc.
Before going to (expensive CDN), you should try the following things:
– W3 Total Cache plugin
– WP Smush.it plugin – optimizes images at import
– The #1 thing you can and should be doing: uploading compressed versions of the images you’re sharing – you should be compressing images on your computer before loading them to WordPress. Even though WordPress may display a smaller version of the photo, if you’re not performing this step, WP is probably loading a huge file size for each image.
CDN is more about maximizing site uptime, and assuring that if one server goes down, your site is still being served elsewhere on a regionally based server. Employing a CDN is expensive. You should try the free optimization techniques I listed above first before considering such dramatic action.

In reply to: [WP-Creativix] Potential THREAT: WP-Creativix "Free" ThemeThey/you just need to update the timthumb script, I doubt this theme author is being malicious.
This is a common issue that the bigger hosts will alert you to – oftentimes the host will also include an updated version of the script. You just then overwrite the old version of the script with the new one via FTP. I’ve had to do this a few times myself.

In reply to: problem with putting wordpress file on the internetYou’re welcome! Yes, your first database migration can be tricky. However, if you have a backup, you have nothing to lose by trying it out. Once you’ve done it a few times, the relationship between the site files and the database will make more sense. I’m sure if you ask around, you can find someone who knows how to help you with the process.
Best of luck!

In reply to: problem with putting wordpress file on the internetYes.
Your database has your links stored at:
http://www.aplacejusttobe.com.au/test/myawesomewebpage
They need to be at:
http://www.aplacejusttobe.com.au/myawesomewebpage
You need to get a backup of your database, there are tons of plugins that will do this for you.
If you have decent hosting, you should be able to set up a new database and user with ALL PRIVILEGES. You will have two databases now. Don’t touch your existing one. You will need to search for the old URL in the new database and replace it with the new URL.
OK, great, you have a second database. Now follow the steps I listed here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/deploying-to-a-new-host?replies=5
Codex basically tells you the same thing: http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress#When_Your_Domain_Name_or_URLs_Change

In reply to: Getting my url to point to my wordpress siteIt sounds like this should definitely be a WordPress multisite install:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network
http://codex.wordpress.org/Glossary#Multisite
You can set this up pretty quickly and then manage multiple WP instances through one interface and database. You can also set this up retroactively using your existing WP installation.
If you want to use one WP multisite install but display your subsites on different domains, you can use the Domain Mapping plugin to achieve this result: http://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/

In reply to: Deploying to a new hostHere’s a search and replace method that takes about 3 minutes and works beautifully. No SQL necessary, and it replaces serialized data (like widgets and plugin options).
1) Be sure to have a backup of your existing database no matter what!
2) Import your database as-is via phpMyAdmin. Go to your database name–>Import. Upload it.
3) Download the script located here: http://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/
4) Upload it to your root directory where the wp folders are.
5) From the gods: “To use the script, you should install it in the root folder of your WordPress install (if you wish it to automatically pick up your wp-config) or anywhere else you fancy, but you won’t get the automatic config. You should also, to protect yourself from automated scanners looking for this script, rename it first. eg, you could name it as rrrrreplace.php – you’d then visit a url like http://example.com/rrrrreplace.php and follow the on-screen instructions from there.”
4) The prompts will guide you through the steps to find and replace your old domain name with your new one.
5) Check out your site. It’s online and awesome. Make sure you can login.
6) Delete the script from your server immediately.
7) Take the rest of the night off!

In reply to: problem with putting wordpress file on the internetYou moved the files, that’s one of two major steps. Did you migrate the database?

In reply to: Getting my url to point to my wordpress siteIf I understand correctly, you just want your domain to go to your WordPress install?
In that case, yes, you should simply remove the lemajdesign folder and put the 3 main wp folders and files on the root directory.
Before doing so you should probably go to Settings–>General and update your Site URL to: http://www.lemajdesign.com
So:
1) Change WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) to the root (lemajdesign.com) in Settings–>General
2) Head over to your FTP client of choice or control panel’s File Manager and move all of the WordPress folders and files up to the root directory. Then delete the “lemajdesign” folder, it’s unnecessary.
Do that and you should be good to go.

In reply to: Couple of issues(1) Go to the Users tab and deselect the checkbox that reads “Show Toolbar when viewing site”
(2) That’s a theme issue, if it’s only affecting you, is it a big deal?
@zafi – Thank you, I wish I could help you. Maybe mention it to WooThemes?
@hippocrates1985 – That Superstore theme looks a lot like the effect you were going for with the KMart site, but the user experience with the WooTheme is better since the user isn’t directed to the shopping cart right away like the KMart site. It’s a pretty theme too. Just my 02. Sorry I don’t have the time to provide more information about the process I used, but mileage tends to vary between themes. I’ve had good experiences with WooThemes. Good luck.
Here’s an example of the result I was seeking, which was accomplished using what I described in my earlier comment:
http://thebeezkneezgardensupply.com/shop/gh-flora-micro/
or
http://thebeezkneezgardensupply.com/shop/sensi-bloom-ab-ph-perfect/
If this result is what you’re seeking, you can use Abundance theme with the ideas I mentioned above to achieve this result without messing with any PHP or too much CSS.
Hi MattPrice1707 –
I did create a little bit of a no-code-required hack for this for my client using Abundance theme. Wonderful theme, not responsive at this time though.
In that theme, and probably many/most others as well, you can use the Grouped Products feature to display a list of products with an Add to Cart button next to each product, on a Single Product page.
The manual parts are:
1) Manually grouping desired products on the master Single Product page (the page you want to display that shows the grouped products in the view I originally described)
2) Hiding the individual single products from the Catalog using “Hidden” from the “Visibility” field which is conveniently available on the Products quick edit view. If you don’t hide these products, they display WITHOUT the grouping.
Hope that helps point you in the right direction. I’d share the result but my client has their site in maintenance mode. Should be live soon. I will post a link when they launch the site.
Cheers,
thebrakelightsI’d like to echo this need! I would like to:
1) List “Related Products” in a list view similar to described by cpt_copycat.
2) Add an “Add to Cart” button to each related product in the list view
I can imagine this would be useful to so many others. Seems like CSS can take care of #1, but I’m definitely struggling with adding add to cart buttons to each related product on a single product page.
