 * Wow
    This last step of hard reloading and emptying the cache fixed the issue.
 * It took me a while because I did a rollback to return to the previous version.

    It was the theme! I switched to StoreFront theme and that weird issue
   is no longer happening 🙂

 * Yer, I think the issue is most likely a bad theme.
    I’m currently using one called“
   ColorMag” and it’s quite popular.

 * Most of those plugins are quite popular and I don’t think any of them could break
   my permalinks, so I think it’s most likely the theme like you said 🙂

 * I only sell digital goods so I had the billing fields disabled for the checkout
   🙂
